One thing, I reckon David Conn will be writing his article on these people already, so it won't be long until we find out more about them.

You know you're doing well if Barney Ronay is writing about you (calling your players 'satin-kneed Galapagos turtles' or some such), and you know you're in the shitter of David Conn is writing about you. And if Jonathan Wilson's writing about you, you've just won the Champions League with some impressive new jargon.

'Low cost orbit satellite delivery'.
Like one of Rudy's shots at goal?

....ooooh. Suddenly, everything makes sense.

I would not like to tell Steve Hollis to his face that he is anybody's stooge.  I have more than one close contact who have met him a number of times and I trust implicitly their judgement that he is very much his own man.
Well that settles it, everything must be fine then.

Is it not in the absolute realms of possibility that something might not be ringing true with this deal? There's no way of knowing one way or the other for some time, and nothing we can do about it, but i'm definitely in the undecided camp on this, but if blind optimism is the way you want to go, fill your boots.

Late to the thread - ironically have beeen  at Chinese class tonight - but have asked Chinese friends for their input.

Somebody in a city-focused infrastructure company would have been in a position to make ludicrous amounts in China in the past 20 years. The sheer scale of the place means that revenue and statistics go beyond our imagination - a much quoted stat is that China has used more concrete in the past 5 years than the USA used in the whole of the 20th century.

He sounds bright - current role and Harvard / MIT education - so god knows why he wants to buy a football club. I don't buy the Villa fan for years angle though. The Chinese only care about success in sport so unless we come back up quickly there won't be millions of people queuing up for Villa shirts across the country.

Will comment more when I have proper information.

That's great stuff, so far as it goes - and a useful reminder that China is more like a continent than a country, size-wise at least!

One of my most common refrains about China, Monty.

China gets many things wrong but they are undergoing the greatest rate of change of any country in the history of humankind. With a population greater than the whole EU, USA and Japan combined.

So, this is what we know: China is big.

My take on all this (and I know that many of you have been waiting for me to break my silence before deciding on your own opinions) is that, if it all turns to shit, then it won't feel any less rubbish just because I worried that it might when it began. Ergo, I'll try to see the positives.

We will win all football.

If he's been in the driving seat throughout this latest search for a new owner I feel more confident than if it had been, say, led by some banker from Merrill Lynch reporting back to Randy.
Not to diss our friends in international banking but their priorities are not necessarily the same as a Villa fan's would be, as far as football criteria with ownership credentials are concerned.

The only thing is villa will have the money but it's competitive out there regards premier league players. Championship wise villa can own and get who they like but a few marquee signings to move us back . I could see speculative moves for a few brazillians coming in and other south Americans.  For a strart we can bring in  Michael Carrick and Sergio Romero from man utd. Maybe a bid for Ashley young too. I mean downing dropped a divison to Boro for a season. Basically a stronger squad with quality players.  Now I'm getting excited and slightly off topic but with di matteo he can bring in a few old Chelsea boys and Raul merelies is one who's out of contract maybe bring in Ashley Cole and Essien and kalou snf taje josh mckraen and build him back up touted as good as wilshite before anyway these with a few big money brazillian buys and some Italians would be very progressive for villla

Wtf

Double wtf

I just want to know why we would sign saturday night football

Gerard, everything is not fine, nobody is suggesting that it is.  What a number of respected (not me) posters have suggested is that things may have stopped getting worse and that in itself is cause to be cheerful.  I am cheered by today's news.  You can make of it what you will, as us your privilege.

Right now I'm more concerned with the people that Xia is surrounding himself with.

Samuelson

Blatter Jr

Damien Comolli

Di Matteo - nice chap that he is.

I get that to an extent Lou, but Hollis has admitted to not being a football man, so what are the criteria he's applying. It really depends on what he saw as his remit, to get the best deal for those who employed him, or to get the best deal for the club.

I'd be delighted to have my scepticism of this whole thing proven hopelessly misplaced, but we're nowhere near that yet.
