Aston Villa-supporting consortium in 'pole position' to buy club
By Sky Sports News HQ
Last Updated: 21/04/16 4:44pm

A group of Aston Villa-supporting businessmen are in pole position to purchase the club from Randy Lerner in a deal which could rise to £100m, according to Sky sources.

The consortium, which is based partly in the UK and partly in mainland Europe, is carrying out due diligence having been given access to the club's accounts
Significant progress has already been made as American Lerner looks to sell the club he has owned for almost a decade.

Sky Sports News HQ understands there are as many as eight groups which have come forward to buy the now-relegated Premier League club.

The departure of Mervyn King and David Bernstein from the board has left the club in turmoil.

However, cost-cutting and the announcement of 500 job losses at Villa Park, has cleared the path for meaningful takeover talks.

Negotiations were continuing on Thursday with lawyers in Birmingham and London and are at a key stage, with sources indicating significant progress towards a deal could be made in the next 48 hours.

It seems a little odd that as soon as we dispose with the services of Merrill Lynch, eight groups suddenly appear from nowhere??

more likely to be the cut in price rather than the change in Bank

More likely the reported 50% cut in asking price.

Apparently there is a guy in London who is a Villa or West Ham fan (he's not sure himself) that's loaded, his father made a bucket load of money and put it in a offshore account for his little boy also his mummy gave him a massive wad for him to invest...
He likes to be called Dave...
The problem is he doesn't like to invest in defence and that's problematic in our current situation, the good news is that he hates scroungers that don't earn their money so 3/4 of the players should be very worried...
When I find out who it is for sure I will let you know, he could be in that rich fan consortium...

P.S He's meant to talk out of his arse a lot and can't be trusted...

Why would Randy leave the negotiating to Hollis? its his asset his money, no matter what Hollis agrees to only Lerner can sign on the dotted line.

I would imagine most 'businessmen', especially the ones that aren't self made, tend to leave the negotiations to a team of advisors, with a brief, and obviously are kept informed of developments.

Hopefully Hollis has told him..."look you've fcuked this up enough times, let me sort it out" :-)

£150 million for a Premier League club that needs another £50 million spent to get it up the table is a tall order. £100 million for one in the Championship that needs a lot less spending to get promoted is much more attractive.
