I don't think it was made up, but the exclusivity thing was never more than an unsubstantiated rumour. I believe there was/ is interest but don't think come the start of the season we will have been sold. There would be more knowledge about it if we were.

Closing the shop early is just to allow staff to attend whatever the meeting is isn't it? That has widely been reported to be a rallying in it together kind of thing as opposed to anything about new owners?

If you were about to announce new owners, closing the shop would be missing out on possible shirt selling opportunities surely. All that new kit to shift (is it even in the shop yet?)

Think about it though an exclusivity period was announced with a fair degree of certainty 4 1/2 weeks ago and we've heard nothing more.  There's no chance that it's because no one is bothering to investigate so it's due to there being nothing to report.  An NDA is the tidiest explanation for that information black hole because that's exactly what it's there to do.  No other explanation makes much sense once you start to consider why the club would be operating as they are right now, for example, the arguments for letting people believe this is happening when it isn't largely base around us wanting to not spend money, etc but our transfer activity largely belies that.
