Not right Bono is in there.

He's the Kingpin.
You label him, you label Chris Martin, your choice,

Tall Story About Bono's Image and His 'Leg-Up' to Stardom

Irish Independent, September 29, 2003
By: Shane Hickey

Liposuction, high heels and image worries are hardly rock 'n' roll but were the main concerns of Bono while on tour, according to a new book on U2.

The book, Inside the Zoo with U2 published today, claims to give a full insider account of life on the road in the late 1980s with the Irish band -- including detailing the lead singer's on-going worries about his image.

Author Lola Cashman, a former stylist for the band, joined the U2 entourage after Bono met her in 1987 and asked her to give her view on the group's image.

She claims the lead singer was constantly obsessed with his weight and even resorted to wearing high heels in order to appear taller -- having first arisen as a concern when he found out he was due to meet Bruce Springsteen.

"Then he turned and said to me earnestly that he had to be taller than Bruce Springsteen" writes Cashman in the book. "I said, tongue-in-cheek, that the only thing I could propose at such late notice was for him to wear a pair of high-heel shoes. To my surprise, he thought it a very good idea. Bono's lack of poise meant we had to sit and devise a plan which would allow him to pull off the farce without him looking like a drag queen. The consensus was that, on meeting Bruce Springsteen, Bono would remain seated, standing only to shake his hand.

"The shoe plan was to be repeated several times throughout the tour, and from now on, his shoes and boots were to be made with raised insoles and wedges that would afford him height comfort."

As well as worries over his height, Bono's weight was also a constant cause of concern for the diminutive frontman and also resulted in calls for Cashman to enquire about sourcing him information on plastic surgeons.

"He was constantly reiterating his insecurities about his appearance. On this particular day he was complaining that his stomach was bloated and the inside of his thighs were sore due to chafing, brought on by continual sweating on a hot stage.

"Bono felt that some liposuction, along with a fitness trainer, could be a short-term panacea, putting him on course for a more youthful and slimmer look."

The insecurity also went into financial concerns according to the author who says Bono was hesitant to invest in the Dublin docks.

This period of exclusivity is all wrong, we should be able to hate the whole of U2 and not just exclusively Bono.

It's certainly time for moderate stadium rock bands to speak up and condemn the actions and music of U2.

Are we agreed that when it comes to hating on them there is a very definite order?

1. B*n*

2. The Edge
3. The country squire on bass
4. The drummer

I think 'The Edge' is right up there because he's a short Welsh man in his 50s who calls himself 'The Edge'.

Ryan Moore is riding Due Diligence in the 4.20 at Ascot today.

That's got to be a sign.

As long as the rider is still in contention going into the final furlong and does not fall off the pace and finish with the also-rans, that's all we can hope for at this stage.

I've got an explosive ITK about him.

He's bald. The hat thing is to throw you off the scent.

Don't mention Furlong. Somebody on here will start suggesting him as Benteke's replacement

I think we all know that might be. We can finally have our dream strike force of Furlong and Jozy.
