Randy's not been involved in the day-to-day running for some time so no difference whatsoever. Even with Sherwood, it was all Fox's work and Lerner just rubber stamped it.

If that's the case, why is he suggesting that he needs to appoint a chairman?

I'm not arguing either side, btw, just occurs to me that there must be something to do in the role if he thinks it is important.
Someone to shout at.

It sounds like he wants to set-up a full board of directors, not just a Chairman so that would go a lot further and is something we've sorely lacked for too long.

We've got a full board already though - Randy, Robin Russell, Krulak (although this seems unclear) and Fox.

I don't really think a bigger board would make any difference, anyway, not to a company owned entirely by one man.

Well, neither Lerner or Krulak have been involved on a day-to-day basis so a club of our size has been run by a CEO and CFO. I would imagine other top sides will have a Chief Marketing Officer and a Chief Operations Officer and maybe one or two others.

  • "I'm a believer mate" but only just.
I think the glaring admission that he deserves the flak and he should have moved to the UK , pretty much confirms that whatever else he is he ain't no business genius.

If Martin O Neill tapped me on the shoulder I'd have pushed the c*** in the pool

the Teflon tw@ would get out of the pool without a drop of water sticking to him

Sorry but why?
Why is he not a business genius? He has lot more than Villa on his plate.
Why should he move to England? why is that a factor in success or failure at B6?

He came with the best of intentions,  he made mistakes but he had a go and the money he lost went into the club. I've got no problem with him whatsoever.

Sadly some people won't be as benevolent or forgiving towards him.  He pretty much left the club to rot for the last 5 seasons.

It was Randy who implied that in the interview.

OK fair enough but I don't see what Randy has done wrong? After all he has put fair amount of his own dosh into our club and the fact that O'Neil wasted it is not his fault.

Well, he did appoint Alex McLeish. How many people on the planet, who weren't Lerner or McLeish or Faulkner, thought that was a good idea?

And he did give Paul Lambert a new four year contract after five so-so games at the start of this season.

And he did slam the spending brakes on so fully that we've spent four years almost getting relegated.

And even if you accept the point that the spending needed to stop, and quick, he did allow O'Neill to spend so much to get us into that trouble in the first place.

He's a good bloke, his heart is in the right place, but he's made a right mess of it. As he says so himself, in not so many words, if you read that article earlier in the thread.

Being  a good owner isn't purely about throwing money at something ad infinitum. it is about making that money work for you as well as you can. The most part of Randy's money left the club in the pockets of underused, not very good players, awarded ridiculously long contracts. That's not too impressive.

I'll never forgive him for taking us off the gold standard.

Easily his biggest mistake.

It is Classic Corporate Governance  having a Chairman Representing The Shareholders and a CEO running the Company and being held to account by the Chair. So from that point of view I do not see a problem with it.
It certainly suggests / confirms that RL wants to be more disconnected from running the Club.
It would suggest that a Plan and budget would be put in place and the CEO would be left to get on with it reporting to the Chairman.
Of course the really big decisions like selling Benteke would be referred to Randy.

I also read from this that RL is unlikely to put in new money.

it is important that he gets the Chairman appointment right.

I can't see randy putting in any more. But with the wage bill now under control and TV money sloshing around we shouldn't need it. I jus my hope he doesn't want any of his money back!

On a related point, the Sevilla team that has just won the Europa league for the second year in a row cost a combined £30m. I know you can't get that value in our league, but still.
