It's a consortium lead by Brian Richardson apparently.

I'm assuming you're joking, right?

A Richardson/Ransom dream ticket.

Just read a bit about him.  A venture capitalist and net worth of 300m.  Sounds just what we need....not.

From the Sun - RANDY LERNER is in talks with an American consortium about a possible £150million takeover of Aston Villa.
But the move casts doubt over boss Tim Sherwood’s future.
Lerner hopes to sell up after years of trying and a serious approach has been made by a group including veteran money man Henry Silverman and LA Dodgers owners Todd Boelhy.
The multi-millionaires tried and failed to buy Tottenham a year ago because they thought it was too dear, but their aim is to take over a Premier League club if the price is right.
Silverman and Boelhy are both connected to the Guggenheim Partnership, but it is their personal wealth behind the project.

Highly-respected Silverman has been working in high finance for years, holding leading posts in New York banking and investment circles.

Mega-rich Boelhy, who also owns famous baseball side LA Dodgers, is ready to 'strike out on his own' and look into other ventures according to sources in America. Villa is the target in his sights.
Sherwood's arrival has seen Villa climb away from danger and help Lerner find a potential buyer. Avoiding the drop is worth fortunes to the American owner.

But Sherwood's position may be under review if the takeover happens. Silverman and Boelhy have been advised to consider a new direction by the football experts in their team.

The pair may look for a global name. They see huge potential in making Villa 'America's football team in England' and the new TV deals and interest in the Premier League has whetted their appetite.

Looks like every red-top is making wild guesses in the hope that one of them turns out to be right, come summer. Boehly was reported as probably leaving the Guggenheim lot a few days ago, and the phrase 'strike out on his own' is not a quote from him but from other news sources. He's a legit billionaire (not that it matters much with FFP), so he could afford it. I just think these reports are all bollocks, as our Premier League status is still precarious.

If its Silverman on his own, I doubt that he has the money.

If its Guggenheim or Todd Boehly on his own (The Sun can't even spell his name right), they've definitely got the money.

I'd hate us to become "America's football team in England".

I am prepared to allow Yanks to be known as "Brummie Wannabies" or California to be seen as a satellite district of Birmingham though.

We've had an American owner for 9 years so why would it ever be different with a different set of Americans?
Our name will never change so there's no point in worrying about it.

I thought that Randy's original idea was to market us as America's English team.

Might well have been, but do we know how much marketing effort was put into trying to realize it? Did we do much more than just turning up for pre-season tours?

Realistically what difference would it make? Will we have to start selling buckets of soda and chilli dogs to cater for the yanks arriving by their plane load? I don't think they will suddenly start flying across the Atlantic in their thousands to see 90 minutes of "soccer" at the Villa. Even if they did, we can fit them in, it's not like we sell out every week.

Boehly and Silverman's investment group, Cain Hoy, is based in the UK which would tie in with what The Telegraph was reporting a week or so back, I suppose.
