or more positively, it gives the new owners a sensible transfer/salary budget, being unencumbered with a higher/unrealistic asking price. Let's think positively, it doesn't all have to be doom and gloom small heath comparisons

And of all the clubs that have been relegated and subsequently changed owners over the last 5-10 years, which have come roaring back refreshed and reinvigorated?

Owning a football club is a vanity project.  The only difference between paying £50M or £500M is as an indication of how much money you can afford to spend to "have fun with it."

I suspect some potential buyers would prefer us go down , they would get us at a knock down price and with the parachute payments we should be able to bounce back straight away with right management in place.

A lot of ifs there Mr Nab. You're also watering down the pool of owners because anyone significant won't want to be in the Championship. I think Lerner would sooner stick around than sell cheap. He'd be better off selling if we got back up

the championship is a graveyard, and this squad or what will be left of it, aint strong enough to bounce back. Randys stewardship of our club has been shambolic.

with hindsight didnt he mess things up at the browns?

I would have thought our precarious position and the difference between being in the PL and the championship makes it impossible to put a realistic price on us until the end of the season. If I was a buyer I would want to know for sure I was buying a top flight club or I would want to pay less if I wasn't.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/aston-villa/11472440/Aston-Villa-open-talks-over-takeover-deal.html

Quote
Aston Villa are on course for a takeover this summer after it emerged Randy Lerner is in “delicate” negotiations with an interested party.
Lerner has been discussing a potential £150million sale since the start of the year and could end his association with the club at the end of this season.
The potential buyers have signed a non-disclosure agreement and are determined to keep their identity secret but are in advanced talks with Lerner and Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
Sources close to the deal insist nothing is imminent at this stage, with Villa’s Premier League future still hanging in the balance.

But the consortium will press ahead with plans to buy the former European Cup winners when the picture is clearer over which division Villa will be operating in next season.
Even if Villa suffer relegation to the Championship, the party would remain interested but Lerner’s asking price will be severely affected.
Lerner, who bought the club for £62.6million in 2006, put Villa up for sale in May but there has been no serious interest until the party made their initial approach in the New Year.
In August Lerner appointed a new chief executive, Tom Fox, who has led a major revamp of the club’s infrastructure since his arrival from Arsenal.

Paddy Reilly returned from Liverpool to become the director of recruitment while Charles Wijeratna became the club’s first ever chief commercial officer.
It was Fox who made the decision to sack Paul Lambert and replace him with Tim Sherwood in February.

There are also plans to appoint a director of football despite Sherwood encountering difficulties with the role in his previous job at Tottenham Hotspur.
Sherwood’s position is unlikely to be affected by the potential takeover. He said: “I’ve got no fears about coming into a club up for sale. Every club in the world is up for sale at the right price.
“All I need to worry about is winning games. I can’t look beyond the end of the season.”

John Percy is usually a reliable source, so I would think it has some merit.

Perhaps the 'Founding Fathers' (and their supposed imminent ITK [ELEPHANT GUN!]) from TBAR were totally full of shit?

No they will claim this as a victory as they have been suggesting we'd be taken over repeatedly after Randy told us he was selling the club. Kudos to the Founding Fathers.

In the last couple of weeks I've been told by two different people that a sale is all but agreed but it depends on us staying up. if we do stay up it will be concluded pretty quickly at the end of the season.
To be honest I just filed them under unfounded rumours,,,,,,,until seeing that Telegraph article.  Now I half believe what I was told.

There's been indicators of it, like Delph signing a new contract and then the comments he made following it.

Stay up, sell up, give TS some transfer funds. This could be a fun era for us. I hope this story is true.
