I dunno, with the TV money as it is, a well run club can run at a profit.  Spurs, Newcastle even WBA have consistently (I think) broken even in the last few years.  T

Newcastle are massively in debt to Ashley. If they are making any profit now, it'll take a long, long time until they pay back the hole he dragged them out of.

This is a very good point, and one which is often overlooked.

It is usually clear to anybody with some understanding of how these things work what the intentions of the new owners of club are fairly early on in the process.  Lerner's initial, and indeed subsequent moves are not at all consistent with a strategy of squeezing profit out of the club. To do this, you have to buy the club for a song and then sell off the assets, quite often the ground, or load the club up with leveraged debt.

If Lerner was as often portrayed by his critics, we should seriously be concerned about to whom he might sell us. I don't think this is the case at all. In fact, he will hold out until he gets an offer which satisfies his principles.

Unfortunately for us, his period of pre-sale readjustment has coincided with Lambert's new pessimism (for us, not his bank account). In other words, Lambert has adopted the austerity program with alarming alacrity, not unlike our elected representatives. I called their relationship symbiotic, and I think I was right.

When Lerner extended Lambert's contract he was effectively saying: this is the guy that I am sticking with until I am gone. He has saved us for two years when most people said we were goners. I have broken bread with him and trust him. This is my design.

The short term downside of this is that he probably sees the desires of the fans as something to be resisted as they cannot see the big picture. So demonstrations are not much likely to have an effect, quite probably the reverse.

In short, we are stuck with Lambert wherever that takes us.

The point still stands though - someone joining the party now has got sod all chance of making any money out of any club outside of the Sky 6.
That's the paradox innit:  in order to make any money out of football you'd have to be as rich as Croesus.

But even he couldn't now - FFP has pulled the drawbridge up behind those that are already there.

FFP just means there's consequences. Someone insanely rich and hell bent on us being a top 4 side could still buy us, spend serious money and pay whatever fines are placed on us.

Talking of how FFP will hinder any club who wants to progress - weren't we about the only club who voted against it?

If I remember correctly Arsenal / Liverpool etc wanted it implemented to try & control Chelsea / Man City to 'break even' but we voted against the FFP as a whole, is that correct?

That's fine for the UEFA FFP. Unfortunately the Premier League FFP consequences are points deductions.

And haven't some clubs already been banned from European competition for breaking FFP?

As ever with UEFA, they'll come down hard on one club pour encourager les autres. A club big enough to be noticed but not big enough to be too powerful. Manchester City and Chelsea would be okay, we'd be relegated to the Midland Regional League,

At least we might be able to beat Denso in the cup.

There have also been a few transfer bans handed out, too, ie no transfers allowed in x number of windows.

If you Google Gilan Holding and click on news, there are a few reports which may(or may not I don't speak or read Azerbaijani) suggest that they're buying us, there's certainly pictures of the badge but I can't translate the article on the device I'm on right now.
