Surely we don't need an oil baron to become an ''Everton'' for fuck sake, investing in a decent manager with a decent back room team and not another British Jobber with limited experience could easily see us 7th ish without spending MASSIVE amounts of money.

Birmingham Mail

Quote
“But try as I might to maybe encourage one of the sheikhs to invest his multi millions in Aston Villa, I find it difficult.

“And what I also find difficult is Villa seems not to be an attractive proposition. I don’t get it. When I look around Villa Park I see a magnificent stadium.

“When I look at the training ground I see a fantastic training ground. It’s not like you’re buying a club where you’re going to have to build these things. You’re not.

“I’m amazed how little interest has been shown in Villa. I don’t know whether the reputation of Villa has dropped over the years and it’s not as attractive? But you and I know the size and potential of this club.

I’m not saying they could be Manchester City or Chelsea, but they could be Tottenham or Everton and these are teams that have been battling for fourth, fifth and sixth for the last seven, eight, nine, 10 years.”

I can't imagine Azerbaijani gazillionaires are going to give a shit how shiny our training ground is.  Like it or not, very few loaded foreigners are going to have the same emotional attachment to the Villa that a fan is.

I imagine there are three reasons foreign billionaires buy Premier League clubs - (1) they want to show off to their mates that they've got a Premier League club - any London club or Man Utd/Liverpool are much better for this than the Villa, (2) they want to make a bit of cash (the relative lack of spare capacity in our ground and our historically average attendances, not to mention our greatest period of success being before TV was invented so we don't have a massive global fanbase make this very difficult), (3) they're doing it for more unscrupulous reasons (rumours have always circulated as to the real reason the Russian bought Chelsea).

Sadly, Randy's experience (£200/£300m down - zero in return) is likely to have put quite a few billionaires off us.  And Andy Gray telling them that if they spend a bit of money we could be as average as Everton is hardly going to excite them.

Everton and Tottenham? With friends like Andy Gray, who needs enemies? What a crock of shit.

Pat Murphy said earlier that he was sure we would be sold this coming summer.

With all the level of frustration at the moment, we're level on points with Everton at the moment so no improvement would be needed. Man City weren't exactly much when they were taken over.

Still got a lot time for Andy Gray. You can see he still cares about the club and is worried about the future like anyone of us. Perhaps Lerner should do as Sir Jack did at Wolves and sell the club for a token £10.00 - he owes it to the fans after a monumental fuck-up since 2010.

Collymore wants a fan type takeover, says something about a 49/51 %  fan/invester ownership

I know it's been done elsewhere but I don't understand it

So can someone just organise this, thanks
(I would but I don't know what I'm doing)

I don't disagree with the general point, but where do Man City fit in there?

If any fits them, it would probably be number 1, and if that is the case, Villa would have been just a good a choice as Man City before Mansour bought them.

As it turns out, not only have they thrown huge amounts of money at City, they've also been pretty much model owners.

I am not saying it is going to happen to us - and, in fact, FFP means that even if someone wanted to spend huge amounts on us, they'd struggle to do so - just that sometimes when people do invest in PL clubs, they can do so with good intentions.

Anyone know anything about Gilan Holding (as their name comes up on google)? There doesn't seem to be much clear info about them on there. Their website seems to suggest that they are the government or were set up by them. That's what you need nowadays isn't it, to be owned by a country?

There were, as I understand it, two main reasons for them buying City. 1) The club had just been given a shiny new ground. 2) They were for sale.
