Why would such an ambitious young successful man join an organization that is up for sale?

This appointment seems to fit in with the rumour that  we are/are close to being , sold imho.

If hes as good as his reputation then i think this is an excellent appointment, i have always felt we have seriously under performed in the selling of the club.We are THE original big club, the club that founded the league, THE Aston Villa, about time we reclaimed our throne.

Who exactly is a 'football man' in these kind of positions. He (hopefully) is coming in to maximise incoming finance for the club and to make sure that behind the scenes everything is running smoothly. An excellent, proven, addition to the team.

The sort of man who can look at a teamsheet and say "He's cup-tied."

Lambert, Keane, backroom staff,1st team reserves and youth team coaches they are the football men at a Villa

All this call for a football man is utter bolocks, and I said the same when Faulkener was here

Yes, but surely you need someone on the board who can sell the club to a player and offer terms that are right for all parties.

The MON affair should teach us a lesson that you don't let the manager deal with that.

I also think it is too big a job for one man to have a proper grip on all aspects of the footballing roles, from youth football through to building a scouting network.  Add in the fact that you'd want the club to also be pushing sports science and all the training/research that involves.

Quite a few pages back someone posted the billionaire map of America   and on the map 4 or 5 states had billionaires called Walton. Someone joked that it would be good to be taken over by The Waltons.
Well since Tom Fox popped up I've been doing a bit of lateral Googling.
I started off by looking at Arsenal's owner Stan Kroenke, because he would have to sanction Fox coming to us. Then I started thinking about who Kroenke could be helping to takeover a football club.
He has a son Josh who is a non exec director at Arsenal and also has ownership of a couple of American sports franchises.
I've ruled him out because of his Arsenal connections and possible conflicts of interest, but then I noticed that his mothers name is Ann Walton Kroenke. She's a member of the Walton family, the richest family in the world who own Wal-Mart     who in turn own Asda.
I haven't checked if they have any sporting business interests, but as the name hasn't been put out there I thought I'd throw the Waltons into the mix.
You heard it here first The Waltons are coming.
And if any of you pooh pooh me I'll go to TBAR with it, they'll take me seriously. ;)

In football anything is possible. An interesting piece of detective work LP.

It was me that suggested the Waltons and afterwards I did have a bit of a look at their investment history an most of them don't seem to have any interest in investing in sport.  However Kroenke's sister-in-law and her husband did own a hockey team for a while in the early 2000s.  I don't for 1 second think there's anything to this but Bill and Nancy Laurie are the the only connection to the waltons who don't own a football club in the UK and have a history of owning a sports team.

Meanwhile on TBAR...

Apparently Randy's gone to Sardinia and Micky Arison is possibly, maybe, somewhere in Italy (we think) and therefore there are TOO MANY COINCIDENCES. It just has to signal that he's buying the club (and it's all but a done deal). Until further notice. Keep coming for more juicy gossip etc.

Pulled this from another forum.
Probably a load of B.S. but worth posting any way.

Heard he (Micky Arison) will be our new owner and all that need s to happen is for the paperwork to be signed. Apparently he brought in Tom Fox and Carlos Sanchez. Hope it's true!!! He's worth $6.1 billion as of this year!
