It's a useful update. Suggests nothing imminent re the sale, which we probably all knew, but that he's not going to cut off funds and leave us rudderless while it's all going on. Which is good.

I certainly owe them an apology. In saying that the club is still up for sale Randy confirmed they were right when they named the new owners two months ago.

You owe them two apologies. Lambert was sacked a while ago, it was breaking news you know.

And on that point. How many owners out there would you trust more than Randy to do the "right thing" in this situation, to their own financial cost?

I suppose it comes down to a question of whether you think Randy would spend £20 million to protect a potential £150-180 million asset and I think the answer would be yes.

Another way of looking at it I guess, would be to ask how much is Lerner willing to spend to protect a potential £150-180 million asset; as little as possible.

Another way to look at it is would a potential new owner back out now because we've re-enforced the squad by 20m spend?

Nothing to worry about as far as I'm concerned.

I don't think so either.

From an accounting point of view, if he spends money on players this summer and the club is sold this season, or at least before the end of the tax year, then the value of the club will increase because there won't be any amortisation to take into account on those players in respect of their book value. So it's not a case of spend £20 million and lose it all.

A well timed statement in the sense it -

Clears up as much uncertainty as possible.  The club hasn't been sold and it appears nothing is imminent. Lerner is aware we are in pre-season and is focused on the football club now getting prepared. Obviously he's not broadcast what the budget is but I suspect money will be available similar to last summer (£20-25m?).

Timely statement. Hopefully we will see pretty shortly that transfer funds are available!

I like the statement. I've read it as, "there's money available again and there are people interested". I feel a little more optimistic about this window now.

Oh and it is also refreshing to see Randy return to a coherent writing style. I still reckon he and the General banged out the last one while stoned and listening to some deep downtempo  dubstep at 3AM.

I'm glad you are showing humility finally, after all it was your fault we lost all of these ITK posts in the first place.

I'm happy progress has been made. We're not stuck at square one in the selling process.

Right chaps.  I'm off on me hols for 3 weeks, I leave this takeover firmly in your safe hands, I'm sure you'll do me proud.  Lucky you lot are here or I'd be dead nervous of leaving at this most moment.  Enjoy the pun off.

I hazard there will be one tenuous link to a buyer and five punathons before you get back.

Enjoy your hols and don't worry. What could possibly go wrong while you're away.
