Watch out now for a forensic analysis of every single word of his statement, particularly on some of our dearly beloved 'sister sites'!!

Another slightly confusing statement on the OS

Quote
This statement is intended to provide clarity regarding the status of the sale announcement I made in early May.

Over the last eight weeks we conducted a targeted process during which we explored the sale of the Club.

In advance of this process however, I committed to our Manager to become completely focused on the upcoming season should there be no agreement to sell by the time players and coaches return to training.

Given that no agreement has as of yet been reached, I feel that it is time now to turn my full attention back to Villa matters at hand.

While the sale process has been productive and remains ongoing, my priority at this point in the summer, heading into the upcoming season, is that the Villa organisation's sole focus be football - undistracted by any sales process.

Reverting to common practice, I do not intend to comment further on a potential sale or related rumours unless and until I have reached a definitive agreement to sell, at which time I will be prompt and clear.

Randy Lerner, Aston Villa Chairman

Roughly translates as 'I'm going back to doing nothing and saying nothing again'

Well at least he's made it clear that there doesn't appear to be anything imminent that's going to happen. As others have said, hopefully he might spend a bit of money now.

Isn't that what everyone expected, though?

Oh well. Not to worry. It was nice to hear from him again.

here's what I think they'll focus on. The use of the word "definitive" and whether that implies something being agreed in principle.

I think what he's actually saying is no-one wants us  :(

Without over analysing, He says the sale process has been productive. Well, the only product in a sale is the actual sale itself so I would hesitate to summise that some progress has been made.
I would imagine that were anything particularly close, this statement would not have materialised. What I dont get is the focus now being on football. Well, seeing as they returned to training today, that happens by default surely? Its sure not on the two average free transfers we have signed and we havent been linked with anyone decent as we have no money.

The new kit is nice though...

In fairness he gets criticised for not communicating, at least he is trying to communicate. So essentially some progress has been made, but we're not particularly close.

It's just him saying that he's not going to hang the club out to dry whilst the sale process carries on, I read that a direct response to the £10m including wages nonsense that's been going round.

It reads to me that people are potentially interested, but that no sale is likely to happen this summer in time for the new season, so he may make funds available to Lambert to buy players.

I wish he'd have made a bit more of a statement about the sort of backing he's going to give Lambert. I'm not talking a figure, but at least more of a passionate indication that he wants the club to move upward and be competitive again.

It all seems a bit half hearted on his part. Hopefully he's willing to put his hand in his pocket this summer to ensure that we're not scrapping around the bottom 5 all year. If he's having a hard time selling now, he'll be buggered if we're in the Championship.

A triple blow.

We were supposed to get taken over and have Jurgen and Prandelli as our new managers.

I don't see anything confusing. Sale process is ongoing. Naturally he's not giving details. With nothing firm in place he will support the manager with strengthening the side which to his defence he has always done. I don't think he's daft. He knows the sun burnt our wings last year and there is no point leaving an asset he is trying to move floating along without an oar. Optimistically positioned we've picked up a number of players to the squad that ended last season and this statement suggests to me at least he will sanction additional investment, which Lambert himself has alluded to.
