I think that prospect actually scares more than the current predicament.

Me too.

The Southampton model = spend way too much, get in trouble, have to frantically sell players to recover? That one?

Or in the other words the exact same model we followed 8 years ago.

More or less.

Although I don't know to what extent they followed our "pretend players you don't rate any more don't exist, thereby not having to go to the bother of selling them" clause.

Minus Prosciutto, Lambert, Lallana, Shaw and probably Lovren as well, Southampton are buggered next season. I think they will be lucky not to be scrapping at the arse end of the table, short of re-investing most of those funds sensibly and luckily. I would guess a large chunk of those fees will go toward balancing the books though.

it's a perfect model. They'll build us a new training ground, spend too much on a number of players for modest short term success, become media darlings for a brief period of time, sell our best players and then the manager will walk out. Then at the end of it all, wallowing in debt the board will collapse and the club will be sold.

Why do I feel I've seen this movie before?

Slightly off topic, but re Southampton, I didn't realise till yesterday that they'd appointed Koeman.

All the Arsenal fans I know think they're getting Schneiderlin too. It'll be a hell of a rebuilding job required at this rate.

There's so much worthy of derision in that post that I'm not exactly sure where to start. What a self-important arse he seems. The fact that he can't wait to spill the beans on something like this (and has said he won't stop doing so unless he's legally obliged to do so) tells me that he shouldn't be within an ass's roar of such a deal, never mind running a club.

To be fair to them, they have just sold two of their academy graduates for £50m +

In that regards they've done very well. Particularly as Lallana and Shaw aren't worth that sort of money. I think Lallana's fairly decent, nothing more. Honestly I think he'll go the way of Joe Allen. Shaw's got greater prospects, but whether he'll emulate Ashley Cole remains to be seen.

They could well end the summer having raked in close to 100 mill in fees for their players. How much of that I wonder will go to Koeman, and how much will cover their splurging over the last couple of years on and off the pitch. Very interesting.

Legion Worldwide look a strange company.

They wouldn't be my choice to go and have a chat about the Villa with.

When you add in that Walcott, Bale and Oxlade-Chamberlain also came through their academy system, it is clear they are doing something right in that area.

Out of interest, has Mr Hodgson announced this anywhere else other than a forum in need of a few posts?

One from the academy, the other was acquired from Boirnemouth, who will get 5/6/7m due to a tidy sell on clause....good bet for promotion / play offs next season me thinks
