Think we are staring down the barrel at relegation if this is true .

That's not going to be true. Why would lerner risk spending so little and risk relegation if he's trying to make the club attractive to a buyer? It maybe that Lerner will only spend that much of his own money and that a buyer is coming in so the rest is down to him, them, or her.

How can we deny this article when we return to pre season in a couple of weeks and we've only signed two players on free's! We've got no money.
This will be the year Lerner finally ruins us

Why would Lerner employ a manager who just got their nearest rivals relegated?
Let's hope we've got a buyer by the January transfer window and we're not completely cut adrift by then.

Yes, and Mr Lerner will get even less for the club when we are in the Championship. Very sound business sense not to invest in the club....even the baggies can pay better wages.

Because there's two months until the transfer deadline, we're barely halfway through the World Cup and nobody else is spending yet.

Without an open offer.  Without due diligence.  Without the FA's, admittedly laughable, "Fit and Proper Yeung" test.

And that stops money being spent how? The previous post said that article 'must' be true because we've only signed two frees so far. It clearly isn't.

You really think we're going to be spending significant money this transfer window? The signing of Cole and Senderos should tell us everything we need to know about where we're at this transfer window.

I can't see us investing any significant amount of money until Randy has sold up. We're in 'muddle through' mode until a new owner materialises. And given the state of the squad, that's a terrifying prospect.

The reintegration of the bomb squad is also a pretty strong indication that funds are in short supply.

I think we need to take into account the paper this story is printed in before we totally take it as gospel.

The Mirror is about as believable as the plot of a Stallone movie, but the general thrust of the story seems likely to be accurate, i.e. that no major investment will be made in the playing staff.

Objectively, the club's been muddling along for the last couple of seasons. Staying in the top flight on a budget is clearly the primary objective. So far, everything has been going to plan. Premier League status has been maintained with reduced outlay. We may not appreciate the lack of ambition, but in relative terms the strategy has been successful. You'd imagine Lerner is looking to market the club as a clean state for any potential new owners, so why would he change tack and commit significant funds now?
