Keane and Klinsmann eh? Another K and we might get Suarez on loan.

What's Stefan Kuntz up to these days?

(Oddly enough chairman of FC Kaiserslautern - knowing our luck we'd get done for tapping up  :()
Is Kuntz in charge of FCK?

Don't know much about Kaiserslautern, but the FCK over here are chunts of the highest order.

Like Chelsea but not quite so classy.

I love the way pointing out something obvious is "sneering".
what's your point? Seems a valid question to me.

Offering the chance to name the ground as a sweetener to buying the club? As was pointed out above, the new owner could do that anyway.

They could if there was no specific clause in the sale that prevented them from doing so.

Which isn't very likely.

I'm hoping that there is a specific clause to force the new owner into re-erecting the A V floodlights.

Now that, I'd go for.

Why would anybody insist on that clause? If you're selling the club, why would you be bothered about what it was called when it was no longer anything to do with you?

It would be like somebody selling a car on the proviso that the new owner didn't change the colour.

It is my view that in general put downs that could be easily inferred as 'sneering' and 'condascending' have increased in recent times on this site.  This comes from someone who has contributed since 2005 and sometimes deserved criticism for the wind ups I have embarked upon (No Juan etc, etc) and therefore I have broad shoulders.

There is a fine line between arguing against someone's point and being condascending in so doing.  In hindsight perhaps I have done it unwittingly but I have to say I am noticing it more and more these days especially if you haven't much in the way of positive things to say about Aston Villa.

As an example, last week someone made a negative point about the club or owners having no sense.  Now that comment was a huge generalisation in my view and didn't really have any weight behind it to back up the argument.  Nonetheless, it was a point made and one that people could argue against.

Instead of that, someone leapt on the fact that the poster had spelt sense as sence - a sense of irony if you like.  The poster didn't deserve that treatment and in my opinion it was the equivalent of being called to the front and ridiculed in front of classmates.  I personally don't think there is a need for it.

Or 'condescending' as 'condascending'.

Sorry. I'm really sorry. I just couldn't resist. I'm neither one way nor the other on this argument.

Aaanyway, I'd like to think that Lerner wouldn't sell up to a self-aggrandising egotist looking for a plaything, flaunting his influence and renaming stands after himself and...well, anyway, I'd like to think Lerner wouldn't sell to such a person, but I think he just wants out now.

kippax is right. But I think it's just a symptom of us all getting bored, irritable, irate and just waiting for something, anything, positive to come out of Villa Park. It turns brother against brother .

Also, Monty is right. If you are going to say something kippax don't look a berk and speel it wrongly. This is H&V after all.

Fair play, I deserved those two!  I did look at condescending and think it didn't look right.  Since I stopped writing with a pen my spelling has gone to the dogs.

As things are becoming quite boring could we have a new even newer poll where we get to vote for our favourite prospective buyer out of those mentioned in this thread?

I think partly it's that the arguments are all the same right now, the negative posters are all:

"Everything is shit"
"Worst squad ever"
"Championship class at best"
"Won't be sold until it's too late"

and the responses disagreeing are likewise all very similar:

"Lots of injuries"
"Lots of unrest over C&K/Takeover"
"Had enough points by February"
"Sale could happen much sooner, look at XYK"

Eventually it all becomes a bit of a meaningless back and forth where the valuable responses are getting nowhere, so people start to just dismiss the poster.  I don't think it's sneery or condescending, just a case of not having much else to discuss.

As for your question that led to this the first thing to consider is what that would add to the package.  If someone wants to change the name they'd already be considering it, so the suggestion adds no incentive.  If they have already dismissed it they'll have reasoned that renaming the ground might start them off on the wrong foot with the fans or just isn't worth enough cash to do.  I'd be pretty certain that most people willing to spend £200m on a football club will fit into one of those categories, if people are in discussions with us and have never considered the possibility then they're not the people we want running the club.
