Jeez, what a mess. We have a club that the owner doesn't want. A Manager that the fans don't want. Players still at the club that the Manager doesn't want. What can possibly go wrong?!!

Late seventies chant: there's only one United, and that's a chocolate biscuit.

It was quite short-lived.

I imagine they'll be custard creaming themselves over at TBAR at the prospect. Whoever is left over there that is.

I think there's so little of them left they can share a pack of custard creams between themselves.

I absolutely definitely remember that in the mid 80s. Died off shortly after, mind.

Bringing discussion back to the general subject, ie the takeover, I just read something on VT, of all places, which struck me as a good point. Surely, the fact that Lerner is stalling contract extensions for the likes of Vlaar and Delph suggests that a takeover is near?

To do that if there were no takeover anywhere near would represent a level of poor, irresponsible management of the club that surely even he wouldn't want to sink to?

Well, I would add that to sign players on frees on two year deals suggests there has to be somebody saying they don't mind picking up the wages. Either you've got to believe Lerner still thinks he'll be here in two years, in which case he'd still be following a policy of spending low on transfers fees, or he's got assurances that contracts will be honoured. This may be why we're only looking at frees, because he doesn't have to spend any cash on transfer fees when he's so close to going.

Signing players on frees who are also going to be relatively low wage, mind, that's the least they can do, and so far that looks like what they're doing.

Mid 80s it is then. Not many there in those days to remember that one. Worst time ever to be on our firm, Zulu heyday as well. Kinda fun though too.

Dickens had a phrase for it.

While logical and something I would generally agree with..... he appointed McLeish and agreed to sign Senderos.

Unlucky for the US to concede so late, they were looking good.  Hopefully they still make it through to the next round and stoke the passion of some benevolent billionaires to get in on the USA goodwill and buy in to the premier league.
