Micky Arison, the chairman of cruise ship operator Carnival Corporation, is back in the game for his rumoured takeover of Aston Villa FC.

Everton are and will always be in Liverpool's shadow. We darken the sky for our neighbours.

Man City were in the same position a few years ago. However, as someone stated, we are a more attractive buy than Everton.

There are 2 differences:

1. Man City had just moved to a fantastic new stadium, Everton's ground is in desperate need to upgrading/replacing but has no space to expand.
2. I'm not convinced Everton really are for sale, same with Newcastle, both are reluctant sellers as far as I can see, whereas Man City (and now us) are openly in need of a sale.

I've been to Goodison Park and in your words Man City's fantastic new stadium,
And I would take Goodison every time, one of my favourite prem grounds
Whereas City's is a soulless abode

I know that is not what you were saying, it's just what I'm saying

I meant from the point of view of a billionaire investor who will be thinking more in terms of becoming a global brand, Goodison can't be a cornerstone of that, the City of Manchester Stadium and it's surroundings were perfect for it.

Good debate chaps. Does anyone remember if we got involved in any of these type of dodgy practises to get rid of the houses in Witton Lane?

They were mainly derelict and I think we just bought them up as they became available.

Article in full , first I,ve heard of Keith Harris being involved but then I suppose it hardly surprising given that he was instrumental in the initial purchase of the Club by RL . Arison & Ellison ...thats some serious money .I like the cheeky reference to Arison being in charge of Carnival at the time of the Costa Concordia tragedy . I guess that would rule out us having an Italian Manager then , if he did by The Villa  ......................Godzvilla!
Micky's game on for Aston Villa takeover deal

Micky Arison, the chairman of cruise ship operator Carnival Corporation, is back in the game for his rumoured takeover of Aston Villa FC.

Just weeks after The Lions’ current owner, Randy Lerner, confirmed he has hired Merrill Lynch to advise on the club’s sale, Arison, who already owns the Miami Heat basketball team, has swelled his war-chest for potential sporting acquisitions by selling almost £6m of Carnival shares.

This week’s transactions are the latest in a string of six share disposals since March, taking Arison’s total new disposable income to around £36m – or a healthy advance towards the £200m that he and Larry Ellison, the Oracle software tycoon, are reportedly considering paying for the Premier League team.

Like Aston Villa, which narrowly avoided relegation last season, Arison has everything to play for.

But will Keith “Mr Football” Harris, the investment banking fixer advising Lerner on the club’s new owner, believe the tycoon who was at the helm at the time of his company’s Costa Concordia tragedy is the right man to captain the ship?

I'm not sure if those figures are right, ( I can't be arsed reading about more rich blokes who might or might not want to buy us), but his £6m of cash from shares, and his £36m of now disposable income, whilst not to be sniffed at, is not at the end of the market place we are all hoping for.
This is painful.

This is twice I've read that the guy was in charge of the company when one of his boats sank. It's absolutely irrelevant for them to include it.

That is what the "Diary Sections" of certain newspapers do. If you were taking tea at Claridges or Lords you would read stuff like that and smirk wryly.

The manager still has to do his job. The alternative he sits on his hands until a takeover is confirmed? Whether Senderos is a good signing is another debate.

The Miami bit got me thinking.
I read somewhere, something this week about Beckham wanting to be a player manager.
He's in Miami.
Just saying.
Ooh. Could this be a reunion of the young guns? A few years on, but then along the line, we get Scholes as bibs and cones. Roy as hair dryer. And the team in sarongs for September.

Dare to dream.

Quite right. A sinking ship has no relevance to us.

Does that article really say that having freed up £6m Arison is now in a position to but villa?

I'm not sure Lerner has dropped the price that much . .
