Remember what happened at Newcastle...Ashley put the club up for sale a few years back....he is still there. Just sayin like.

He's also making a profit and getting free advertising for his businesses (not to mention raising his personal profile) so whilst he may want to sell I'd guess there is less urgency as the profits will be even bigger this year.  I suppose it all comes down what Randy, Ashley and Kenright's asking price is, as they're the obvious clubs to buy.

That express article certainly doesn't give the expression that we were only put up for sale a week or so ago.

After reading that I've got nothing but sympathy for the bloke.

Me too. I've got a lot of time for him.

He certainly needs some help. With the injuries, catastrophic loss of form, and backroom problems, he did well to just about hold things together. Just as important as improving the squad as best he can, he needs to ensure he finds the right coaches/assistants around him as right now, he looks very lonely.

It is, of course, in his interests to give this impression but nonetheless it must be just about the hardest job in the Premier League right now.

I actually think Lambert's a decent manager, I've just seen nothing to suggest he's much of a coach. His ability to either improve upon the second of these, or employ the right people to do it for him will pretty much define the rest of his career IMO.

I would imagine Paul Lambert is reasonably wealthy. Why, then, doesn't he resign and start afresh at a club that has considerably less problems for him to worry about?

Daft as it might be,
I think he really likes Villa, and knows it would be difficult to find a better/bigger club

Lambert was never the coach anyway.

As if it ever needed to be said, but for me this puts in perspective the simplistic "Lerner out" "Lambert out" footballisms. The first of those is underway, but look at the mess we're in! We might not have any players left soon. So, lets also get rid of Lambert, who has already done what seems to have been the worst job in the premiership for the last two years – cost cutting a big club which has a fan base that has higher expectations than the owner was willing to fund. So seems like that job just became a nightmare: high expectations, fans unhappy and the club's in limbo.

Good question. Pride ? Loyalty? Either way it's time to just rally behind the team and manager

I think you are probably not far of the mark there, John. I also think he is probably a decent bloke, who is trying to do the right thing, which is a bit of a rarity in football in the top flight these days..

If he had done the worst job in the Premier league for the last two years we wouldn't be in this league.

I do have a lot of respect for Lambert - it must be an extremely difficult situation which he could easily walk away from (I'm sure he doesn't necessarily need the money and certainly not the stress). I think he has bought into our potential and maybe he does deserve a crack at it when hopefully the right backing is in place. If he is looking to bring an assistant in I hope he is given the ability (£) to get somebody good in. Would Steve Clarke step in for 6 months or so?

I don't if I'm honest. He gets paid a hell of a lot of money for doing what he does and he seems to relish the challenge. Maybe if results and performances had been a bit better than they were i'd have a bit more sympathy.

All of this does not excuse the season of results he has just delivered. So as has been said he is a very well paid. Some will say disgustingly well paid so get results from whatever you have Lambert if you are anything near a decent manager.
