I learned a new phrase while reading TBAR yesterday: play the post, not the poster. I obviously have no idea what it means but I thought I'd invoke it now in case it made anyone attracted to me physically.

Well its on their list..along with guiness at $8..

Yesterday I had the most expensive drink I have ever consumed. £10 for a glass of Rioja at the Marriott Hotel by York racecourse. I would have kicked off, but I wasn't paying.

It wasn't even that nice. The sort of stuff Bad English would give to his mother in law

I was in a bar in Hoxton last year, with work colleagues, I got the first round in. I ordered four pints of piss weak flat lager, and was told they'd be £5.30 each.

I tutted, shook my head, muttered "Tsk, London" to myself, then quietly put my own credit card back into my wallet and took out the company one. I'm not getting financially facefucked on my own money when I'm with people from work.

I was caught out with an ever expanding round when on a residential course. The final drink for a white wine and something simple was £12.50.
I still feel annoyed several years later. Perhaps I need more therapy ...

Randy Lerner, the Aston Villa owner, first put the club on the market last summer, The Times has learnt, and was close to completing a deal with one suitor as recently as three months ago.

I'd suspected this. Doesn't mean we won't be sold, but it is a little disappointing (well, depends who the prospective buyer was actually).

*does quick calculation in head*

Three months ago is about Norwich, followed by Chelsea. I imagine Randy and the buyer sitting down over a pint of specially imported Ansell's bitter talking over the deal. He's sold this new mug on the history and tradition, the bright lights of the PL, our superstars like Bowery, Baker and Tonev "You'll love it mate, don't worry about the last few seasons, or that Hutton is still on the books" he says gleefully, just about to trouser £200m. The buyer goes away to get a cheque "I'll be back in a bit". Within a couple of weeks Benteke is out for the season and we've been panned by Stoke, Man U, Fulham, Palace and Swansea. Buyer calls Randy offers him £50 and keys to his daughter's Datsun Cherry. Says he knows this Neville bloke who might be interested...

First car I legally drove was a Datsun Cherry. First car I ever drove was a Princess. First time behind a wheel at 15 driving from the pub in Belbroughton back to Bromsgrove and getting it up to 90. It's not big or clever so don't try it at home.

It was fun though. Maybe.

I should add I hadn't had anything to drink! Which is why I ended up driving.

Your precis TV is what gives me the willies now. I know it is posted with humour in mind but so much which has happened to us in the last four years has been tragic comedy. However much I try I cannot get out of my head the suspicion that proactive intentions to engineer ownership change seamlessly have failed behind the scenes and the statement was what it said on the tin namely the commencement of the search for a new owner for the club.

Seems obvious to me Brian green. You don't advertise the club for sale if you have a buyer . Seems we had a buyer it fell through and now the trail has gone cold. I can see Lerner being here a while now unless he's taking cut price offers.

Lads - had an interesting chat with my source late last night after a few sherbets.

He's very encouraged and says Due Diligence is complete.

Wouldn't say too much but as suspected buyer is America with cash to burn.

Looks like good times ahead.

Mentioned buyer is interested in revamp of villa park and other facilities. Long term vision etc.

Should know more later today...

The buyer is the United States?

Makes sense, what's a trillion-dollar deficit compared to our debt profile?

Does that mean Barack Obama will be our Owner/Chairman? Or perhaps he could be CEO. Joe Biden as manager.

With our luck we'd end up with G Dubya.
