Lambert is going to America because, like the shunammite, he's wondering what the fuck Randy was on about.

The other thing about the statement, after I finally got round to reading it, can you push your fate past its limit?

It's a strange statement.

In one way, it is actually quite touching. It made me remember more of the good things about Randy, and for all the worthy criticisms of him, he's without a doubt an extremely principled man who will try to do the right thing - which is what he has consistently had us do off the pitch.

Looked at another way, it's pretty oddly written in parts.

This, for example, is very clumsy stuff:

"I have come to know well that fates are fickle in the business of English football. And I feel that I have pushed mine well past the limit. The last several seasons have been week-in, week-out battles and having now come through this last season unfortunately limping amid very meaningful injuries and constant sale rumours, I feel further that now is the time for me to look for new ownership and thus new leadership."

I would have thought that Brian Doogan, had that been run past him, would have not allowed something like that to go out.

Still, it's the gist of it all that counts, and that is good.

That General Krulak one, on the other hand, jesus, that's a pretty odd one, putting it lightly.

Apparently Doug will say that the new owner needs to spend £100m to make Villa a force. Stay tuned folks.

He also said the new owner should be someone who comes along to matches.

Well. After Stoke anyway.
He did say West Midlands!!!

I admit to living out of the country for a few decades but Stoke is in the West Midlands I thought. Isnt it?

(confused)

Yep, unless it has moved recently it is further west than Birmingham.

The gist of the General's statement is that Randy has a proud history and a bright future.

Blimey, geography not your strong point. Stoke is in North Staffs, it may be Midlands but it's definitely not West Midlands

Its seems like so much else over the last few years, cobbled together whilst concentrating on something else. If I was being uncharitable Id say it sounds like 4am, over earnest after club musings.

If you're going with county boundaries then neither Wolves nor the Baggies are in the West Midlands either.

PM me if anyone's got £199,999,573 and wants to form a consortium with me and Jim down the road who's just flogged his Peugeot for £0.4k.

Get a map of the Midlands. Draw a line down the middle from top to bottom. Left of the line is west, east to the right.

Stoke is not in the West Midlands. It is, however, in the Midlands.

"West Midlands" is a political entity - Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, Wolves, Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall. That's where the confusion kicks in.

Stoke might be geographically further west than Birmingham, but I genuinely don't think I have ever heard it referred to as being in the West Midlands in practical usage.

Doug's on 5 Live at 11:15 tonight claiming the club has been sold to an American.

I don't think it's a re-run from 2006 but could be worth checking.
