Whatever your opinion of Lerner's stewardship of the club, he has always behaved with decorum and good heart, as befitting a club that has a special place in the history of football. The snide comments and derision really are uncalled for.

The statement reads like part one to me. It is usually the buyer who announces the sales - Lerner is taking opportunity to say his goodbye in his own way before the real business starts. I find it hard to believe the statement has been made out of any context of an actual sale in progress in some way or other.

If he has learned anything this last 8 years, it is what it is like to be a Villa fan. I wish him all the best.

the clubs up for sale

there is a lot of loonies/crooks/twats out there

just ask a few clubs that have been bought recently

hope Lerner finds a good one, but when someone is wafting the money in front of him I doubt that will be his first priority

Agreed. The most important part of the General's bizarre statement was about Randy viewing his ownership as a custodian. Randy likes the tradition, and would want it guaranteed to the extent of refusing the Tans of the world.

I just don't see how Lerner would make this announcement without having someone lined up.
If every Tom,Dick, Harry and Carson with money knows that RL's 'heart is no longer in it' they will think he's desperate to sell and will look to get the club for the cheapest possible price and look to knock tens of millions off the price.

I really don't think RL is dumb enough to allow that to happen.

For all his failings, I trust Randy to not sell us to shysters.

re the lunatics, one positive thing is that there are fewer of them around the £200m end of the market than the Small Heath end of it.

Have you actually seen the team play over this last season, or over the last 4 years?

I suppose what people are worried about is how long the process is going to take. It's the uncertainty; the squad needs a dramatic overhaul and the manager is largely unpopular with the fans. There needs to be quick change in order to avoid yet another relegation battle.

We got our business done early last season though and look what happened!

That's not a good excuse to leave it to the last moment either.

Nope, but I think the most important thing is not when it happens, but who ends up buying it.

Me too. For all his faults I think he'll sell us to good people with money to invest.

By the way I've just read Krulak's piece on the OS - it's just bloody bizarre.

I think you are wrong about Lerner.  I'm convinced that a buyer is lined up & it won't be to a bunch on chancers.

Hovering over it all, a bad smell of doom and despondency.

Of course not. I merely post here because I got banned from the Rover 45 Owners forum.

That is obviously a really important factor. My point is that finding a new owner quickly would be much more beneficial in terms of finding a new manager, and finding new players. At the moment, the squad is fucked and RL isn't going to be spending too much on it now.

This won't happen though; I can see this drama stretching out for weeks. All the while, we're not signing any decent players and still have Lambert in charge.

To be honest, i'm very pleased with the news. It could have been better, i.e. already sold (especially if it was someone with lots of cash)!, but it could have been worse, i.e. we go again.

I can't see us being relegation fodder now, even if it takes a few months to sort. I think with a few players back, a couple of experienced guys in to make us more solid and the possibility again that there could be worse than us in the division we should be fine. Add to that the possibility of buying a couple in Jan if thinks look bad, we could have a better season. Does of course depend who we sell to, so i say it with a bit of caution.

Let's not panic. For what it's worth my guess is that Randy does have people lined up and the deal will be concluded within a month.

It doesn't really make enough sense for it to be anything other.
