Someone said to me last week that he suspects Randy has gone bonkers.

That reference to the Shunammite makes me wonder .....
There's a touch of the Tom Cruise about his statement. I can imagine him laughing a lot, slapping his thigh and occasionally jumping on his couch.
I was hoping for a reference to the seagulls that follow the trawler but you can't have everything I suppose.

You can find reference to the Shunammite woman in 1 and 2 Kings in the Old Testament!

The statement seems to me, to be completely and utterly fucking pointless.

If you're in negotiatons, carry on with them and make a statement if and when you've made a deal. If you're not, don't spend a week leaking to various sources that there's going to be a statement and get people's hopes up.

I just don't see what Villa gain by making this statement. In whose interests is it? It doesn't help the fans, the manager, the players, the dinner ladies, just... why bother?

It reads like a heartfelt goodbye to me. But, whatever. If it makes you feel better to joke about him being mental, go for it. It does make you sound a bit like the dumped one in a relationship.

It's certainly the worst possible news for this summer though.
The trouble with heartfelt goodbyes is, you have to say them at the right point. You don't tearfully say your goodbyes to someone then carry on living with them for another year or two. Right now there's no certainty at all. We could sell next month, we might not sell at all.
It'd be nice if Randy could show a bit of nous for a change. If we had more football men higher up at the club, helping him, they might have been able to advise him that all he was doing was potentially winding up the fans by making a statement a month ago regarding his statement today, which was essentially nothing. We're selling? Um...yep, we've known that for 2-3 years Randy. Cheers.

Read the statement. The existing staff will continue etc during this transition, not until a buyer is sourced etc. it's very much in the style of Lerner. He wouldn't come out and just say the club is for sale without having something lined up, it weakens your hand. I have absolutely no ITK but remain convinced this will be wrapped up quickly

Probably done to eradicate some of the gossip.
Allows him to get on with interested parties a bit more in the open now, without undermining any of the staff at the club

I thought it was an Aerosmith b-side.

It needs to be done quickly. We are in a bad place.

The new owner(s) and management team need to hit the ground running.

If there is no deal in the offing then we really are well and truly fucked. Another 6 months of Lerner, Faulkner and Lambert we could not bear.

I completely blame Randy.....he is simply not rich enough or stupid enough to spunk tons of money on our great club.

Next.

C'mon it's a holding statement,a final draw of his sword with regard to his legacy. He sold the Brown's in a very similar manner within 8 weeks.I'd imagine the sale documents are on plenty of potential buyers lawyers desk, awaiting the tipex,Merrill Lynch were almost certainly engaged some time ago and the sale process is under way.

Interestingly;someone mentioned that he'd been rediscovering his faith over the past 18 months....

Does this mean that Alan Brazil was wrong?

I may kill myself. He has been my secret ITK all along.

Apologies if someone has already posted this but there is also a statement on the club website from The General, no less:

Maybe a deal with a bidder has stalled and Randy is using the statement to strengthen his negotiating hand with that bidder but also with a view to attracting others.

You will recall when the bought the club from Doug, negotiations stalled, and is was another three weeks before the deal was struck. During that period other parties were in discussions with Doug which were well documented in the media and probably pushed Randy to do the deal at the price Doug wanted.

Maybe history repeating itself
