We really can't afford to be left in limbo this summer.

Jimbo? That clown? Fuck me, it was bad enough with Ads in charge.

I have a feeling that RL will announce that he is to, following a period of sorting out the runaway wage issue and as a number of non playing over paid players are gone, increase the funds for PL.

Where my head is at right now as well. Which would be fine with me. There is no credible source so far saying we have been sold.

What is weird (very weird) is that Lerner could say he is going to spend more or that he is selling, today, or Monday. I find it very odd he has not. I suppose billionaires are allowed to be a bit quirky though.

This all depends on what the announcement is, if it's announcing him entering a partnership with a major sponsor he contractually probably can't discuss it until the end of the season.  right now that's what I'm expecting.

If Lerner says he's going to start putting more in the transfer kitty, but keeps Lambert i'll despair

I'd despair more if he said there's no money to spend and the clubs up for sale with no prospective buyer. Whoever the manager is we need investment.

Lerner wouldn't issue a statement to say he's going to give the manager more money, he'd just do it.

He also specifically said he'd address the question of his ownership.

I guess the obvious point is that if he had no intention of selling, he'd just have said that straight off.

If that's the case why make a statement ?

Its clear in the statement he intends to sell.

Were just waiting on whether he has found a buyer or not ,and I think he has.

These very points, plus my belief that announcing he wants to sell but hasn't yet found a buyer would be daft, are the reasons why I voted 'I've flogged it'.

I think that rather than announce we're for sale, he'd just appoint an agent like Rothschild's on the quiet like.

My position all along. If there was nothing to say or no changes to be made he either could have said so or nothing at all. Something is going to happen and my feeling is that everyone at board level has been sworn to secrecy. It wouldn't at all shock me if there was also a financial incentive to do so.

I am convinced he is going to announce he is looking for a buyer. I don't think it strengthens or weakens his bargaining position one way or the other, but I have serious doubts that an acquisition has occurred or that one is even close.

Ultimately all the evidence we have is a couple of articles in the Telegraph and Guardian which state Lerner wants to sell (well duh) and Ian on a little read corner of the internet making claims, backtracking and making further ambiguous claims. Not a lot really in other words.

What if he dismisses Lambert and then gives his successor no money?

I still think the announcement will be investment and a management re-structure to include a DOF.

The combination of Peter Reid and no money would tip me over the edge I reckon.

I think that, unless aj2k77 remortgages his high horse and reinvests it all in a new pair of socks for Luna, then he's a right bastard and ought to be shot for being a bastard who knew about the price of Spanish socks. The bastard.

He doesn't deserve new socks, he should be forced to play barefooted on tacks with an old football for 12 hours a day until he learns to control a ball.

It would be a change of approach for him to simply announce openly that he's looking to sell. When Lerner decides to do something, he maintains in public that he's doing the exact opposite until the time comes to announce that he's done it. He said they'd never sack McLeish, and they sacked McLeish. He said he wouldn't sell the Browns, then he sold the Browns. To change this would be to change the way he's always operated.

Mind you, when he appointed McLeish he altered the way logic operated, by appointing a manager who'd just been relegated playing the dullest football ever with a bunch of 35 year olds in order to avoid relegation by improving the style through the integration of young players into the first team. With contradictory insanity like that, I don't think we can go too much on his past actions to predict what he'll do in future.

We went from:

O'Neill - 1970s football
Houllier - skill-based stuff
TSM - 1870s football
Lambert - who knows?
