No fair point. He has done great thing's for the club. I think we can mainly agree though that now is the time to move on

And perhaps most touchingly, the link with Acorns, which has helped them do some much for many children in the area.

Am I the only one one who wants the shirt sponsorship back - we get about £4m to have some dodgy betting company on our shirts, which is about two years of one squad player's wages, or we can be an essential part of the advertising for a fantastic local charity. My proudest moment as a Villa fan was the day they announced that we were going to have Acorns on our shirts

Really?

I was quite proud to see that, yes, but I was far more proud to see us win the European Cup, and I am every time I hear it mentioned, even 30 plus years later.

The Acorns work has been magnificent, genuinely good stuff, which has been accompanied by other good stuff off the pitch.

The problem is that the on the pitch stuff is more important, and that has been fucking awful for several years now.

In an ideal world there would be no need for sponsorship, but if we have to have it we should aim for the most we can get. Having Acorns onboard was great but they probably got as much out of it as they were ever going to get and the current work we do with them is just as important.

He cannot sell us anyway, he has got a tattoo, how would he explain it in future years?

Financially its worth more giving them a percentage of the sponsorship deal and the work they do is so, so expensive.

No, it was the future interest on that sum, by converting debt to equity.

I have a feeling that RL will announce that he is to, following a period of sorting out the runaway wage issue and as a number of non playing over paid players are gone, increase the funds for PL. I find that more likely than some superdupa filthly rich sugar daddy is about to come to town. I find it strange that so many people on the internet seem to presume we are about to be sold and to a dream owner. Unlike others I am not sure any statement from PL has suggested that and RLs strange statement said nothing.

I would not mind next season under PL if he has more than previous amounts of money to spend this Summer. I would also like a filthy rich sugar daddy for the Villa (I mean a more filthy rich sugar daddy than the one we have now) but I am just not convinced it is what is going to happen. I am not even convinced that we will have more money for transfers than these past few years.

I think that, unless aj2k77 remortgages his high horse and reinvests it all in a new pair of socks for Luna, then he's a right bastard and ought to be shot for being a bastard who knew about the price of Spanish socks. The bastard.

The Biscuit Brigade are getting juicy for Al Fayed now. Bring it on. I'm not sure we'd see much more of Prince Bill.

Where my head is at right now as well. Which would be fine with me. There is no credible source so far saying we have been sold.

What is weird (very weird) is that Lerner could say he is going to spend more or that he is selling, today, or Monday. I find it very odd he has not. I suppose billionaires are allowed to be a bit quirky though.

Also I don't agree with the "can't find a buyer" line. You can sell the club quite easily, it's about the price someone is willing to pay for it vs what you want to recoup. Clearly A new owner would need to inject transfer funds of say £50m so in their mind this would be part of the investment. Agreeing a mutually acceptable price would be difficult.

Interesting, though of course, nothing concrete. What would people think to Klinsmann being the next manager? I myself would be very happy with that. Sorry if this is being discussed elsewhere.

Good post by Kevilla. The Man City factor did kill us. I remember The General always saying that Randy didn't have a machine that printed money. Man City do.

I think the issue now is one we've always had apart from the two years in the early 80's and that is we haven't got enough money/ astute enough leadership to compete. Doug was great in his own way but he completely missed the early Sky money/post Euro 96 opportunities that other clubs took advantage of. I mean where Arsenal in a knackered old Highbury really that much better placed than us to spring to where they are now?

Our inability to capitalise after great seasons under BFR and little were the real missed opportunities. Invest well while you're strong. We finished fourth and then bought a cheap replacement right back and an admittedly exciting looking player from Bolton. We should have bought a top quality centre forward, central midfielder and better quality on the flanks.
