All that Lerner's coyness will do is attract chancers and carpet baggers.  I am not allowing myself to be seduced into thinking that there is a "with one bound Villa were free" end to all this. I said to my son it is like a shepherd leaving his flock on a mountain and going on holiday for a year and a half. When he returns will his sheep be fat and healthy and ready for market?  No they will be mangy and skinny and flyblown and he will not understand why the sheep he paid so much for are worthless. It is called neglect. He has neglected his investment and he/we must now pay the price. Chancers, carpet baggers, snake oil salesmen and asset strippers please form an orderly queue.

I think you ascribe a level of cynicism to Lerner which borders on malice, something I believe wholly unfair.
I think it's spot on.

I don't think Lerner would sell us to a charlatan, a Tan or a Cellino, not for one second. His incompetence is beyond doubt, but the idea that he's going to sell us off to an asset stripper is a step beyond.

So if he isn't selling to the chancers, there isn't any need to accuse him of handing the club over to a Yeung or a Tan.

That's fair enough, but there's still the assumption that Lerner's being as coy with potential buyers as he's being with us, which I'd be surprised at if true.

The reason he hasn't/can't say anything yet is the season is still ongoing,so we don't know how little prize money we are getting.I don't think it is him being coy for the sake of being coy,I hope not anyway.

Neglect is often due to depression and related forms of spiritual malaise rather than malicious cynicism. This is not to say that I agree with Brian's analysis.

Which is a very good point.

I see no malice in Randy Lerner and have never knowingly ascribed that vice to him. I see, and have seen for a very long time massive, uncorrected naivety. My suspicions are that if he were a self made man who had amassed his own wealth himself he would never have distanced himself so carelessly from such a major investment. I like Randy Lerner as a man and will miss him when he is gone but that does not change my opinion of him being that of Del Boy's of Rodney.

Hmmm, I think Kenwright has been TELLING every one he is trying to sell the club for years, but isn't really.
No proof, just a hunch.

I met a guy connected with the Everton board and he said exactly that.

I think it's just as likely that the reduction of the wage bill was key to selling the club as anything else. As someone else said on here, it's almost like doing some work on the house to help it sell. Think of it as replacing the guttering and fixing some damp, doesn't add value but does get rid of a massive problem on the survey (due diligence). Even with some of the bomb squad still about we're self sustainable right now, so no one has to take on debts before they're through the door.

Randy is making some kind of statement next week. Where is it likely to appear first? The official club site/Sky Sports News or a press conference? Any idea's on this one?
