Can anyone tell me that if we ever get sold to a multi billionaire what the financial fair play rules would mean for us? Would he be able to invest the silly money that Man City have for example? Or would we realistically have missed the flaming boat again?

We could do what Man City do, even twice what Man City have done but once in Europe we'd get a slap on the wrists and would be told to stop being naughty.

We'd get fined 50m like City were, but who gives a shit, frankly, we'll be so fucking minted.

We could hire a helicopter, hover over Platini's office in Switzerland and drop £50m in 1p pieces on him.

On that, I don't quite see how it encourages clubs to break even to fine them the equivalent of buying Zidane.

Every time it rains, it rains pennies from heaven
Don't you know each cloud contains pennies from heaven?
You'll find your fortune's fallin' all over the town
Be sure that your umbrella is upside down

Alternatively we could take Platini up in a helicopter and drop him out of it.

That would be almost 50% of the total number of 1p pieces in circulation.

We should do it with a host of helicopters, like Apocalypse Now, Wagner belting out and all.

Platini don't surf!

Brace yourself for the worst Sir L B. His statement will be, essentially, we go again. Anything of any import or significance will be like the signing of TSM insofar ad it will be done in total secrecy and without any prior warning.

As stated before that's my fear as well.

I'd err on this side. Kenwright has been trying to sell Everton for years - similar club, granted with a near rival who has international appeal, without any sign of success for what 4 or 5 years.

We'd need what £100 million net spend just to push us back towards the Top 6-8. Not sure I see the appeal myself.

Hmmm, I think Kenwright has been TELLING every one he is trying to sell the club for years, but isn't really.
No proof, just a hunch.

Indeed, I've got very pessimistic the last couple of days. There's too much delirium - I mean, like Larry Ellison is buying a soccer club in the English West Midlands - and there's the sense of a balloon inflating and inflating which will inevitably pop.

£100 million to be top 8? Turn it in! We could spend £20 million on a couple of quality midfielders, probably the same again on full backs and a centre half, work the loans and be more than a match for the top 6-8.

Including wages? I doubt you could cover 4 'quality' players and I suspect we need nearer 6 or 7 first teamers alone.

Use of loan system - ahh yes. Like Jenas and Holt.

Well we could if we had a functioning football orientated board and not to mention a functioning 1st team management collective. We have had neither for a long time.

All that Lerner's coyness will do is attract chancers and carpet baggers.  I am not allowing myself to be seduced into thinking that there is a "with one bound Villa were free" end to all this. I said to my son it is like a shepherd leaving his flock on a mountain and going on holiday for a year and a half. When he returns will his sheep be fat and healthy and ready for market?  No they will be mangy and skinny and flyblown and he will not understand why the sheep he paid so much for are worthless. It is called neglect. He has neglected his investment and he/we must now pay the price. Chancers, carpet baggers, snake oil salesmen and asset strippers please form an orderly queue.

I think you ascribe a level of cynicism to Lerner which borders on malice, something I believe wholly unfair.

You’re shifting the goal posts to include wages. But even so, five players on 50k per week, not taking NI and bonuses into account, over four year deals equates to £52 million. Not too much over what we’re paying for Bent, Given, Hutton or N’Zogbia. So as I say, it would take considerably less than £100 million and I am shocked that anybody thinks the league actually has that much quality in it bar 3 or 4 teams.

Obviously if we sign poor players on loan then they won’t work out. Good job I am not advocating that we sign poor players.
