Hope the opening poster, willywombat, doesn't mind, but I have renamed this thread to more fully reflect the topic.

I think you missed a great opportunity to rename it The Thread To Talk About The Takeover Thread and induce a mushroom cloud somewhere near the Pyrenees.

Can we please call the thread: What We Talk About When We Talk About Takeovers

Be nice if it had a Raymond Carver feel about it, especially if there's no takeover.

Or, "We Need to Talk About Anschutz"

If I wake up tomorrow and discover I'm a billionaire, the first thing I'll do is have a fried egg on toast, and then I'll go to Wickes and get a new cordless drill. A really good one, with a spare battery.

That's how I roll

I've spent today decorating. As decorators do, I had TalkSport on most of the day.

Their advertisers clearly know how to spot their market. Wickes, tool hire companies, van insurance, fleet management software, and Jacomo, the clothes company for fat blokes.

I've got all those going around my head this evening.

I was awake at four this morning humming a tune I identified as 'the Hedgehog Gutter Brush Song'

I once was playing cricket whilst singing 'send the buggers back' from Phoenix Nights a few seasons ago. I opened and couldn't get it out of my bloody head. Bowled for 8 leaving a ball that smashed into my off stump. I'd kind of like it if their bowlers were singing the same.

This takeover talk must have fried my brain. Every time I hear the news and the £65 billion takeover of Astra Zeneca  comes up, my brain registers it as the £65 billion takeover of Aston Villa. ::)

Appearing at a home game would be a start
I don't really get this "why is our chairman not at the games?" stuff. Why is it so important that the chairman has to be at the games?
I just want the chairman to run the club effectively and provide sufficient funds to deliver some progress: not being at the game is a 'nice to have'.

Fact is:Randy hasn't delivered the basics in terms of running the club effectively even if the funds have been forthcoming.

The owner should sit on a huge throne and show his dissatisfaction via the traditional thumb method

Len Fairclough is innocent.

I think if I woke up tomorrow and had become a billionaire overnight, i'd seriously think about buying Villa and immediately closing it down purely so it could never, ever make me unhappy again.

I understand, but I'd have to kill you before you did that.

The prospect of you becoming a billionaire and doing that actually worried me for a few seconds there.

This thread is absolutely crazy and highly entertaining and occasionally even erudite.
I have discussed the thread with my beloved and she is totally baffled by the banter.

Maybe I am too.
But keep it going.

I'd prefer "A Good Man is Hard to Find" but then it would have a Flannery O'Connor feel to it.

I bought an SDS drill last week. I love DIY and was just amazed as how powerful one of these things are. Brilliant.

Well over on TBAR someone's posted a picture of an emoticon with a villa scarf alongside two dancing bananas. I must have missed something but somehow this has been interpreted as some form of sign that one of the richest men in the world is taking over.

Banana? So, is it the jungle? But it's two bananas. Two bananas. 2 b's. What does that sound like? Toupes? Teepees? Who lived in Teepees? Red Indians on the plains of the United States. And the jungle? No, it's the desert. Oregon, in particular and a trail. Full of lonesome pine. Pine rhymes with mine. So, what's yours? If you're not telling me you're keeping it in the can. The trashcan as they call it in Oregon. That's right. You've found him. It's dusty bin.

What, is he the man from Del Monte?

Ha ha ha that is quite superb. Almost as surreal as the original show.
