Very interesting listening to SGT on WM on the way back today. He was asked would he take on a DoF role at the club, and he basically said IF he was offered it and IF he was sure the whole club was pulling in the same direction with the same goal of getting the club into the top six where it belongs, then yes he would consider it.

The tools for success are there. We just need someone with the nous to bring them together.

I don't want to get my hopes up of something like that only to be disappointed. Sir Graham as Villa chairman, DOF would be just enormous for the club. Enormous.

I would so love that to happen.

I don't know, really.

I'd love someone like him to be involved in some way at the club, but I am not sure DoF is a position that has really been proven to work in the English game.

What would he do? Where would his responsibilities and the manager's end? What if the manager doesn't want to work with a DoF?

Maybe DoF is the wrong name for such a position, maybe it should be PWAFCaF (Person With a Fucking Clue About Football) who would talk some sense into Lerner and co.

Yeah, I wasn't being specific as such. Really, what I am saying is what we've all been saying, is get someone in with true football knowledge to assist the new board. If it was Sir Graham, the title would be irrelevant. It would simply require him to have powers to make "football" decisions.

If Randy stays then getting in someone like SGT would be very beneficial. Whatever you'd call the role, we just need someone who understands football and the club in a position of influence at the club. He could also be invaluable to an inexperienced manager, be that Lambert who whoever might be in charge of the club next season.

I'd love to see Taylor back.

I'd also love to see Ian Taylor given a coaching role if he's taken his badges yet.

Didn't SGT have briefly a boardroom role when Gregory was manager? He then obviously took over as manager but I'd be interested to know what his role was back then.

How in touch is SGT with the mechanics of football these days, though?
I wonder whether he's not a little out of touch.
That's not to say there isn't a role for him in some NED capacity.

Having someone like Sir Graham Taylor as part of the board at VP will help close the gap that has opened up between the board and fans. He would speak from the heart, and even if his words ultimately would be the same as someone like Faulkner, the message would be received very differently by even the most sceptical of our supporters. The next phase of our clubs existence needs to have a lot more transparency and openness to it as much as things need to improve on the pitch.

I wouldn't want him to be manager or anything. But in terms of understanding the mechanics of football I think he'd be in touch. I would expect someone like him to do is put in place other people that understand the game as it is today. Football has so many more layers to it now than it did a few years back that a manager alone cannot do it all, let alone in conjunction with an inexperienced Chief Executive. Randy and Faulkner are good people, but they took on too much and didn't employ others to run football matters, or at least help out in some capacity

I heard him after the match and his bitterness towards the current regime was obvious. What also came over was how, for the first time ever, he sounded old. As an ambassador, yes. The 'he talks, you listen' figure we badly require. But please not in anything approaching a proper job; I fear Sir Graham, approaching 70, wouldn't be up to it.

I may as well drop the bomb after today though. Looks like this takeover is on.

I have to ask Chelts, what brings you so convincingly to that conclusion sir?
