The grass isnt neccasarily always greener ..

But we can dream  ;)

When the existing grass is covered in weeds, with old beer cans strewn everywhere and dogs shitting all over it at every opportunity, it stands a good chance that the grass will be greener on the other side.

As much as I think it is way passed the time we need significant additional investment, I just hope and pray we get sold to someone who gets the soul of the club, who doesn't piss history away with some daft idea of renaming anything, and who isn't a total meglomaniac with an ego the size of his or her wallet.

As much as I think Randy has made mistakes over the last few years, I will always remember him for getting me excited about being a Villa fan again.  The summer of 2006 was what dreams were made of and anyone who would have swapped those times for anything would I suggest be lying.  He also got the soul of the club and left it largely untouched by image nonsense.  A quiet man who wanted to let others run the business, utlimately however, whilst this was an endearing quality was his downfall - too trusting and philanthropic for his own good.

So let's all of us hope he sells to someone of the right stock who will invest and take us forward without ripping up the fabric of the club.

So, Lambert staying at the club when he knows Randy is off to pastures new, and he'll be sacked at the end of the season by the new owner is he reason Randy is spouting off about the loyalty to the club in the statement he made earlier in the week? Lambert staying to see the job through, being professional and putting the club first, fair play if that's the case.

One more year of the Ellis era and we would very likely have met with disaster. We're probably in no better position now than we were in 2006. If relegation doesn't happen this year, it's almost certainly nailed on for next year if Randy stays with us. He's a well intentioned man, he's put a lot of his own money in, and we enjoyed brief, relative success with him at the beginning, but he's got as much idea of running a football club as a tadpole has of climbing a ladder. A new owner might be worse than Randy - we've no way of knowing - but it's a risk worth taking because the alternative looks bleak.

I still think he's after partners rather than an outright sale.

Good point.

May as well toss in another cliche.

Its a funny old game. Who would have thought we'd be glad to see the back of a billionaire owner!

I just hope whoever potentially buys the club has the same basic heart as Lerner. I always believe he wanted the best for the club and we need that with more funding.

But he thought he knew better than SGT and Steve Stride. Big heart, big chequebook, no football brain anywhere at board level.

I don't want us to be like Chelsea or Man City

But I'm not getting to worried just yet

Re the first bit of this post - would we not want to like Chelsea or Citeh?

Chelsea have an odious set of plastic fans, though before the Russian money they were equally unpleasant, just for different reasons. So the big change is a more successful side that presumably is enjoyed by their genuine fans. They have a manager and several players that I dislike intently but that is just about a few individuals.

As for Citeh, I'm not sure on the detail but some of what I have seen in terms of their investment in future player development and in the community they are part of looks positive. Plus in terms of playing staff and style there is a lot to enjoy whether you might be old school member of the Citeh faithful or a new recruit from nowhere near Manchester.

I would prefer the pre Sky version of things when clubs had a more equal chance and resources and power were far less concentrated, but that is a thing of the past and not likely to return anytime soon.

So if for the foreseeable future a few rich clubs dominate, then on balance, I might prefer my club to be one of the elite than not, even if it meant a few of people I have to sit next to don't know who Pongo Waring was, never mind McGregor, McGrath, McInally etc.

I would never want my club to be soulless and forget its tradition and heritage, though each of us would have our own tolerance on what might be a breach of that standard. UTV.
