Was there much ado about there being three of them at the time and not two as advertised?

A fair amount.

They were largely forgotten about, though, when the Ben Folds Five became famous.

Ben Folds Five were great, even if there were only three of them.

I agree, but they totally destroyed the Thompson Twins in the number falsehood stakes.

Thompson Twins = three people rather than two, lie factor of one person.

Ben Folds Five = three people rather than five, lie factor of two people.

Totally upped the ante.

Not to mention that The Three Johns who were around at that time contained only 2 Johns.

The Righteous Brothers were fooling people way before The Thompsons Twins did.

The Thompson Twins were better than A-Ha but not as good ad Alphaville.

Not percentage-wise though.

Arthur Negus, The Thompson Twins and Alphaville. This thread is becoming a goldmine of forgotten names. Luckily I was sad enough to watch bits of Celebrity Squares and 3-2-1 on Challenge late last night so can I throw in Malandra Burrows and Billy Dainty.

Still can't think of those f***ing cartoon characters.

At least They Might be Giants had the good grace to put a 'might' in their band name.

Been some good Villa players named Thompson and didn't Thompsons buy Doug's holiday company?

They were Forever Young.

Maybe Villa will get bought by a German billionaire and the pre-season tour will be Summer In Berlin
