Hypothetically speaking, imagine somebody like the media-giant Thompson takes us over and decides he is going to do a Man City spending wise.

How would that fit into the FFP rules?

Easy.  He sponsors the dugout for a bazillion pounds per season and allowable under FFP rules.

When FFP were released they were pretty adamant that such deals would not be allowed and that market rates would be used.  How they'd enforce it I have no idea but that was their stated intension.

My guess is that these oil rich clubs buying other clubs is a long term plan to get around the rules.  Man City for example will be able to lose all sorts of costs and not to mention develop players the best young players through their New York City or Melbourne City franchises.  Furthermore if a big name player is under performing he can be loaned to NYC and therefore his wages will be off Man City's books.

They would just bribe the people charged with making the decision.

We should make a list of the takeover rumours we have had over the years. In no particular order;

1) Padfield QC
2) Ransom
3) Neville from Solihull
4) Comer brothers
5) Venezuelan magnate
6) Red Bull
7) Some Qataris
8 ) Gillett & Hicks
9) This current rumour

10 ) Stan Stennett

Does the Sheikh, Sven and Beckham count?

If you're looking for Desperate Dan; he's on The Bells Are Ringing.

I didn't even know he'd been banned here until just now.

Eastie's getting himself a bit worked up over these PMs.

We know Troy was logged in as Kurundi and sending a lot of them, too. That's clear.

He must think we're absolutely stupid to have somehow mistaken Troy for him. I'm looking at a list of PMs eastie sent at that time right now. The only reason we know anything about these messages is because - as I said - they triggered the anti flood warning for too many being sent from an account at the same time, so we got Martin (who is an admin and has powers mods do not have) to see what was going on, lest it was some sort of bot / someone had hacked into his account.

They're from his account. Believe me, this is one of the most frequently used bits of message board software on the internet, it isn't going to falsely attribute posts to other posters.

Excuse my ignorance of these matters but is "sent from his account" the same as sent by him?

If it wasn't sent by him it was sent by someone logged in on his account.

Seems open and shut.  Someone who stole a key to my house convinced a number of banks that they were getting messages from me that's all.  I have always found H and V very fair in its treatment of those of us who use the site.

I cant see Thompsons taking us over. The sales of the Beano and the Dandy are not buoyant enough.

This guy is the 26th richest person in the world according to the Forbes List and the richest person in Canada, so the Beano and Dandy must be doing OK  ;)

Nor me.

I hope not, too, they're proven liars. For starters, they can't be twins, as there are THREE of them.

I wouldn't have thought a campaign to get people to defect to another site based on criticisms of this site and the mods would be hugely successful. Surely anyone who felt that way would have buggered off of their own accord anyway. As for the takeover, with the mainstream media's increasing obsession with social media I wouldn't be surprised if someone had heard the rumours, done some checking and come to the conclusion there is absolutely nothing worth reporting.

Maybe they each had a twin. Which would lead nicely into a joke about having a threesome with the girl (was it Allanah or something like that?) and her twin ending in a 'he had a beard' type punchline.
