I sure that was only our second away win of the season after we had won at Arsenal on the opening day.

I was in Greece when we won at Arsenal and went to nearly all the away games after that. It seemed as though I was going to go a whole season without seeing us win away. Really disappointing considering how many victories we had had the year before in our promotion winning campaign

British Rail failed me badly that day. I got to Newcastle very late, I think it was the first year they had taken down the floodlight pylons that had been a useful guide up the hill from the station and the waiting taxi drivers all refused to take me anywhere near St.James Park. I found the ground just before half time and all the turnstiles were closed so i had a discussion with a nice policeman who said 'dont worry son' and promptly sent me through a gate with a wink straight into the home section next to the Villa. My sister had come down from Edinburgh to meet me and go to the match and I could see her in with our lot. I spent all the second half in fear of her seeing me and waving to me with a big smile on her face accompanied by few misguided 'cooee's'. We helped send them down that day and the locals were very pissed off. As has been said only our second away win all season and I couldnt celebrate a minute of it.

I was living and working in Brighton at the time . I got the train home to Staffs on Friday night - got on the Premier Ents coach to Newcastle and then got the train back down to Brighton again Sunday evening .

The people in the office where I worked thought I was completely mental - going to Hove was a mission for half of them .

Just over 20,000 of the best supporters in the land i think. I was so cold at this game. Can't believe it was April. Thought it must have been January or February. Kept my mouth shut until Platt scored, the Geordie sitting in front of me turned round and said that we had put them out of their misery.

Had a great night out in the Bigg Market that night.
