Sorry for your loss.

Helmets might help in situations (definitely stops skin lesions etc) but as they are only rated for a fall of 1.5m from a stationary bike they don't actually do much in most, and as they make the head wider/taller by several cms, can actually cause the "head" to hit the ground harder even if without it wouldn't have impacted. I'm not advocating not wearing them, just that they are not the safety protection some think they are.

Sorry to read that charlatan.
Sometimes it’s fine margins that make a difference between life and death, having had a big crash in 2020 I was thankful for my helmet that I didn’t suffer any kind of head injury and I will always wear one and encourage others to do the same.

I've worn one in recent years assuming it is more likely to help me than harm me (and somewhat ironically help to avoid a lecture from the wife), but I'm sure I'm much more likely to be mown down while running, particularly since my road crossing technique is much more aggressive than my cycling. On the rare occasions I've come off my bike (admittedly sometimes as a result of not having my feet attached to the pedal when exhausted) I've walked away relatively unscathed, but assume it's actually more dangerous to have your feet clipped or cleated in the event of some unanticipated incident.

When I worked in London I had some colleagues over from New York, I took them out for a run one lunchtime through London, along The Mall, Regents Park, Horse Guards, The Embankment, they got a really good tour of the sights of London for free. However, they were horrified at crossing the road or more accurately how I did it in London, often crossing halfway and running down the middle of the road until a gap appeared on the opposite carriageway. Frightened the beejeezus out of them both. We all lived to tell the tale.

In those conditions as well, quite a ride.

I watched a bit of that earlier.

I’ve done a fair amount of MTB’ing but you’d not catch me attempting that track.

Road Race neutralised due to protests on the course. News haven't yet covered the protests so not sure if JSO or others.

Environmental group This Is Rigged claimed responsibility, Ironic for such a green event.

Professional road cycling with how many vehicles supporting them plus helicopters in the sky "green"? Probably what they were protesting about.

Anyway, 4 Belgiums in the lead pack going into the last 50km. Could be interesting which one will want the glo......Hello Remco.

Most UCI events now state EV or Hybrid for teams and officials.
Their beef is with INEOS according to their website but as usual they’ve missed the fact that INEOS have nothing to do with world cycling their ire should be aimed at British Cycling for their deal with Shell.

Maybe I can do their research for them as it seems they have an 8 year old doing it.

A friend of mine Claire Danson is racing in the TT on Wednesday, Road race on Friday and the mixed relay on Saturday. She’s a para athlete and a fucking amazing human being.

They went past my office five times as many times as I have this year. Seeing a race where you're familiar with a lot of the course really brings home how fast they are going (much better than my general rule that they must be going at least twice my speed on the flat).
