Just got back from Headingley, weird game. Warwick fielded well but were a distant second in both batting and bowling. Two exceptional performances from Patel and Evans tipped the balance for an unlikely win.
The wicket looked to be of variable bounce, any attempt to hit out soon resulted on a lofted catch in the outfield. Yorkshire did the right thing in taking all the singles on offer supplemented by the occasional boundary. 122 off 18 seemed like nothing but the two seamers were brought back and a further 25 rattled up with ease.
Patel's hat trick was excellent. An lbw which had the batsman throwing mucky looks at the umpire on his way back and two defensive strokes that were beaten all ends up.
At no stage did Warwick look in control of what they were doing with the bat until the final three overs. The 18th and 19th overs really turned the game on it's head. Sidebottom's final delivery was Dilshaned over fine leg for 6 and a near impossible 13 off Bresnan's final over became an even bet 7.
Not a bad crowd, the ground was between half to two thirds full and a very sporting round of applause for Patel's hat trick and Evans' 50.
