Great stuff. In with at least a chance of the title now. Shame those useless Wankashire bastards couldn't have got one more wicket and beaten Notts, but we're in with a shout.

Durham v Warwickshire: Hosts collapse after Barker heroics

LV= County Championship Division One, Emirates Durham ICG

Warwickshire 472 beat Durham 171 & 113 by an innings and 188 runs

Warwickshire 24pts, Durham 2ps,

Durham suffered their fifth-worst defeat ever in the Championship as lost to Warwickshire by an innings and 188 runs at Chester-le-Street.

Resuming their first innings on 62-3, Keith Barker (6-46) ripped through the hosts' batting line-up as they were bowled out for 171, trailing by 301.

Made to follow-on, Barker (2-20) had Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick both caught behind for ducks.

After briefly rebuilding, Durham lost eight for 38 as they were out for 113.

Keaton Jennings (37) and Michael Richardson (30) had steadied the champions' second innings, but Jeetan Patel (5-49) had Richardson caught by second-day centurion Sam Hain, as Durham lost five wickets for five runs in just 3.4 overs.

Boyd Rankin (3-16) bowled Mark Wood (18), who hit four fours to help Durham past the 100-run mark, to round off the emphatic win as Warwickshire record their first win at Chester-le-Street in 10 matches.

Victory for the away side keeps them in the title hunt as they moved up to fourth, just four points behind Yorkshire, who have also played 11 matches.

First-placed Nottinghamshire and second-placed Somerset, who are 20 points and 11 points ahead respectively, have both played 12 matches.

Durham, meanwhile, remain in seventh place just 11 points ahead of Lancashire, albeit with a game in hand, who fell to one-wicket loss to Nottinghamshire.

 Durham coach Jon Lewis:

"Warwickshire's bowlers were really disciplined. If you keep batsmen under pressure you get wickets, but we didn't do that on the first day.

"We came into the game hoping a win would take us up towards the top.

"Now we are looking at the other end of the table and our next game at Old Trafford will be a crucial one."

Warwickshire bowler Keith Barker:

"It's been a while since we won here and we certainly didn't expect to do it by taking 17 wickets in a day.

"The ball was doing just enough for us. Durham probably didn't get their lengths right on the first day and we found it nipped around if we bowled a bit fuller.

"With Chris Wright being injured it was a bit scary being a bowler down, but fortunately my knee held up well."

BBC Newcastle's Martin Emmerson:

"This wasn't even a contest in the end, such was the gulf between the two sides. It was a mauling no-one saw coming either.

"Maybe it is a good thing Durham don't have another Championship game for a month.

"It leaves them looking over their shoulders at the bottom two instead of the leaders.

"It was one of the worst Durham displays I have seen in 15 seasons. A real horror show."

Great spell by Jeetan Patel - 5 for 9 in 22 balls. We're back in the title race now that's for sure.
