Why is our head Groundsman producing such a slow wicket? It simply wont suit the likes of Wright, Barker & Rankin.

My adopted side, Worcestershire, tearing it up in Division Two. But for the weather they'd be even further out in front.

I don't think he's got a lot of choice.

The drainage was improved in common with all test grounds - this was ECB funded -  and since then the square drains too well. The end result is slow pitches. The groundstaff can water the square all they want before a match but it dries out far too quickly thus producing slow pitches.

it was highlighted by an interview with Shoaib Malik last week who likened the Edgbaston pitch to one more likely to be found in the subcontinent.

Warwickshire won again, which sets things up nicely for Friday's game at the New Road Lido.

There is a game of rounders at Edgbsaton against somebody called "The Steelbacks" on the day before the game at The Lido against "The Rapids".

I love New Road, but I think a T20 game there would spoil the magic somehow.

Rikki Clark had a double wicket maiden in the 18th over but Northants are now 115 for 3 with Levi looking well set on 43.

217/3 now - good stand between Jim Troughton and Sam Hain, who now has fifty - good young batting prospect for the Bears. Hopefully now post 400+ and skittle Northants pronto!

To think Sam Hain is only 18! He was one of the brightest talents in Australia who fought to try and keep him there to play for them. Although born in Hong Kong his parents are both English and he moved with them to Australia where he grew up. However, we can thank ex-bear Mike Powell for recommending him to the club for trial, from which he opted for County Cricket here and a 2 year contract, much to the Aussies displeasure! A future England star?
