Cricket at it's absolute worst. Floodlights on, and they go off for bad light. Absolute joke.

Everyone walking off now - umpires and batsmen shaking hands....No Lankey's out there to shake hands.

Chopra 50
Javid 15
Match drawn.....Not umpires fault they took players off on 1st day at a certain reading and for the duration of the match if the readings reach that same reading
they have to come off...
Cracking day set up in the main by the stirling efforts of the bowlers.

How can you go off for bad light when the floodlights have been on all day? Cricket does have a tendency to shoot itself in the foot sometimes.

It's a strange rule and one that should be addressed. The decision whether light is playable needs be with the batsmen and not the Umpires. It's a repeat of the Oval test last summer albeit with less riding on it.

This happened at Edgbaston last season as well. Against Somerset, I think. Tresco time wasting like Stoke City FC on steroids.

Oh well.

Good, well balanced report on the 4th day

Imaginative Captaincy

I've been touting Bell as a possible England captain for a while. It may not happen so hopefully one day when his England career is over he'll lead the Bears for a couple of seasons instead.

This might sound a stupid question, but if the lights are good enough  for night time games, like 20/20 games, why are they not good enough or powerful enough when it is gloomy at 5.45 pm

Chopra did a very good job last season when standing in as well, particularly against Notts at Edgbaston.

" It wasn't bad light at all. It was shoddy umpiring. The players should never have been forced off the pitch when it was spitting with rain and it was brighter at the end of the game than it usually is at noon in Lancashire.

The umpires need to be banned from all forms of cricket for at least a year for their appalling performance during the final day of this match. "

Interesting comment on cricinfo!

Ian Bell has the potential to kick on and really be one of the best batsmen in the world. He is just class.
Another ton today in good time.
