Yorkshire 204/1 Another century for Lyth 100*.
Northants 169/5
Worcester 228/6

Surely Yorkshire can't lose it from here, looking at the batting line up with Rashid coming in at 7 having scored 169* last match, it must be the strongest batting line up we've had in years.

Whilst it's Yorkshire's title to lose, I really can't see it happening unless you suffer some unfathomable meltdown with the bat and ball.

Chris, how many points do you need to be mathematically certain?

I'm not sure how many are required, if we win this match then we're champions.

291/3. Root out LBW, he was plum if you discount the thick inside edge and the fact it was missing off stump by quite some distance.

Northants all out for 273. Big partnership for 8th wicket ensured respectability.
0 wickets for woakes.

Closed on 79-1...not bad for 16 overs, utilised the short boundary a lot better than Northants did i thought. Poor shot
by Westwood though.

I agree, PGW, and so des Brian Halford. Here he is waxing lyrical in the peroration of his report in the Brum Mail:

Quote
... to leave Warwickshire 16 overs batting on a gorgeous sunlit autumn evening.

Westwood soon sliced to first slip but Varun Chopra and William Porterfield several times fluently dispatched the crimson rambler over the vivid Edgbaston greensward in the closing overs to promise riches on Wednesday.

I lifted this from the BBC Sport website about the "permutations":

If Yorkshire beat Nottinghamshire this week, they will be county champions. It is also possible that if the game ends in a draw and Warwickshire don't win, that they could be champions if they pick up enough bonus points.

Division One leaders Yorkshire began this week on 223 points. They now have 226 - and can still get a maximum of 271.

Second-placed Notts began this week on 197 points. They can still get a maximum of 245, but they must take five Tykes wickets in 14 overs on Wednesday morning if they are to claim full bowling points.

Third-placed Warwickshire began this week on 190 points and can still get a maximum of 238.

Here is a contrast for you. Chopra got his 53 in 62 balls. Porterfield got his 46 in 141 balls.
Warks 150 for 3
 Trott and Hain in.

Chopra had the right idea, we absolutely need to get top batting points, although the Yorkshire performance so far is looking like making it academic anyway.

Chris, what are your thoughts on Lyth?  To me he seems to either make big scores or get out really cheaply (and was dropped early yesterday) but I can see England taking a look at a few openers over the next year and he seems to be among the names mentioned.  He does bring some quality in the field though.

There is definitely an opening position open and I think Lyth, Robson, Hales and possibly Vince will be competing for it.

Chpra's name was in the hat last year as well, if he can get back to that he'll still be talked about.

He reminds me of Darren Lehmann in that once he's in there is pretty much no shifting him, I think he's also helped Lees development and he's a brilliant fielder. He's also a pretty decent one day batsman but England have got enough of our players so let us hang on to him a bit longer before he has his confidence shattered by being played in one Test before being dropped!

Rashid must also be very close to a call up for both one day and Test squads.

That backs up my thinking then, as I said, either out cheap or goes big, not much in the middle.

I think I'd like to see Hales get a shot first so I reckon you're safe for now.
