I am excited by that, apart from baffled by Baker ahead of Clark. Looks like a balanced 442. Lowton not in the squad, for why??

I think Mr Lowton's days are numbered.

A bit risky not to have him on the bench, but maybe Lowton has an injury ? I could not imagine Holt, Weimann and Helenius all being used as subs, so why 3 strikers ? But Lowton really has been disappointing lately, so perhaps rather Sylla as a makeshift rigth back, if needed. And rather see Helenius than Holt, but that is a different story...

In other good news, Lambo is taking the squad to Spain for a warm weather training break after tonight. This time last year, they needed that but did not get it, seemingly because the club would not fund it.

I see lamberts taking them away to the Mediterranean this weekend - lets hope they win and earn the treat.

Our starting line-up looks stronger than theirs.

On paper. Knowing Villa, they will boost the uncertain reputations of Zaha and Jones.

He changes a formation when it works, Away. Keeps a formation when it doesn't work, Home. He truly baffles me with his thinking. Lets just get a win.

I don't believe for a second that the club wouldn't fund it - more likely the manager didnt  suggest it.

Maybe Clark has a minor knock so not risking him from the start? Especially with Ron's issues.
My guess is that it's specifically to deal with Kenwyne Jones's height.

That line-up should give us more width at least. Get decent deliveries into Benteke and he'll score goals.

It's when you look at that line up, you realise how unlikely pre season predictions that we might compete with the likes of Newcastle, Everton and even Southampton are.

Still could win this one though. I'm just very surprised baker is in - though Clark has been off colour of late I think baker has been worse. Perhaps it's all about kenwynne jones

I'm going for a 3-2 win to us gabby first scorer, I'm that confident I've put a whole pound on it 100-1

I think we'll win this one.  Pace and width.  Come on villa, give us something to smile about!

I normally think we'll finish top six for about a week and a half, then top eight for the next couple of months, then top twelve for a few weeks after that, then we'll be relegated for sure during Christmas and a month or two after, and end up thinking that there are, after all, thank god, three teams worse than us in the league
