It's highly likely that I won't be getting a season ticket in 2014-15 for the first time in around 16 years. What with the demise of the printed H&V fanzine (no requirement to sell any more), viagogo and the current cheap deal offers by the club I might as well do it on a single match basis thus saving money. Plus I won't have any wasted tickets when I go off on holiday. The insipid home performances I've witnessed over the last few seasons are also a factor.

Can't wait for 'the' telephone call...

I know the feeling, said to my brother that I'd be more likely to renew if we get relegated I think, at least it would be a bit of a change. Our seasons feel monotonous at that moment, always crap at home and trying to cling to Premier League survival. We are not Coventry City.
Would you bother if we went down and kept Lambert in charge considering his record with us vs lower division teams?

Hehe

Better than if it was O'Leary, who would be claiming "we can't compete with the Yeovil's of this world".

It's a slippery slope....I gave up about eight years ago, fed up with TV schedules/SKY.  The realities of the distance and family life played a part too.  My wife gave up her Bolton season ticket at the same time, not too painful you'd think, but she'd had for the best part of thirty years.

I now make it to a handful of games every season.  I had the pleasure of Swansea at home this season, last season I saw Wigan at home, both over Christmas.  Both games were absolute eye watering dross, that poor I couldn't even muster anger.

It hurts like hell - the longing to bottle time - especially the match day ritual, meeting up with friends, memories of the old Trinity down the years.....but watching those two 'matches' convinced me that feeling slightly out of place at a home game means I'm free, I've managed to kick the habit.  Almost.

The constant changing of dates and kick off times was the main reason I gave my season ticket up too- working shifts it became no longer worth the money as I couldn't get to certain games and  to be honest I have great respect for those who have had to put up every game with what we've dished up at home under lambert especially .

Frightening stuff but only to be expected. I remember hearing someone saying about 20 years ago that clubs would eventually have to pay fans to attend a game to create an atmosphere and you do wonder sometimes if that might come to fruition one day! I've always been amazed so many people turn up at lots of grounds in the Premier League considering 9/10ths of the division hasn't a hope of really winning anything. It's just a case of who can buy the league now and the skills of managers in putting together a decent team don't really come into it any more - long gone are the days when the likes of Ipswich, ourselves, Southampton, Leeds, West Brom, Nottingham Forest et al could mount a challenge at the top end of the table. I know it's absolute madness to want to see us relegated but I can see the temptation of the 'big club in the Championship' and the excitement of taking lots of fans to away games etc. It would actually (and bizarrely) rekindle my desire to go. And yes, I know we might do a Wolves or a Leeds or a Forest but I just crave some bloody excitement, anything to relieve the tedium of where we are now. I used to love the swashbuckling style of the team back in the day and the huge followings away from home and I think I'd almost swap that now for this meaningless crap we are mired in. Plus we might get rid of 'our' (hardly) don't care owner and can't manage manager

I think our support is pretty poor in comparison to clubs of a similar size, who have been infinetly less successful than we have over the past 50 years, such as Man City and Newcastle.

240 mile round trip for our home games is becoming very boring and depressing as we know that when we get there we are likely to stink Villa Park out...and I have been saying for a couple of seasons that a spell in the Championship would do us as fans some good, rekindle the flame for the team and the club....UTV

It wouldn't do me, you or anybody else at Villa Park any good dropping into the Mickey Mouse leagues.

Not that we will mind.

Eastie, I know, I'm not sure how my match going friends keep up the enthusiasm.

The arc of decline is steep, in such stark contrast to teams of the past, all with their strengths and weaknesses - but at least offering some great players, with spirit, entertainment and skill.

Perhaps those who see only a few games in flesh can offer a little perspective compared to those having their souls sucked every week.  I'll always be proud to be Villa and am a positive supporter, but the quality on the pitch is so poor.  At the Wigan game last Christmas I thought I'd entered an Villa Park in an alternative universe.

Agreed about the poor support City and Newcastle comparisons.  I wonder why?  Is it just in Brummies nature? Are fans from East Manchester or Newcastle more Parochial? Or less socially mobile?

Totally agree with Richard, in terms of fun and excitement in the modern game.  Bottom line is competition.....we can't compete with the SKY 4/5 and that's that.  I wish they would feck off to a glory hunters super league and let the rest of us try and WIN something.   Obviously, not going to happen, but we can dream.

What's the point of winning something that is completely irrelevant?

It's like the rest of the 100 or 200 metres sprint field entering a Primary School sports day just to win something, as they will never beat Bolt.

I said I wouldn't renew last season. I did. I've said many times  (usually coming out of Villa Park) that I wont renew this season. I probably will though. While my old man is fit enough to climb the Witton Lane stairs I will keep going because I enjoy the matchday and his company. Just wish the Villa would put a smile on our faces more often.

Giving the Norwich game a miss, just apathetic about things even though it's a very important game now.

Really?

The truly staggering amount of dross that has been served up at Villa Park over the last few years and we still manage to regularly get crowds of over 35k. I'd say that was pretty remarkable support.

Taking 2000 up to Newcastle for a Sunday lunchtime live on TV is pretty good support in my opinion.

The early bird prices for season tickets lasted all of one year.
Christ knows what the board are going to do.I can't read them.
