It may sound out of character but Wenger bought Hateley to Monaco (along with Hoddle, which was more in keeping with his style).

Right on both counts PW. Amoros was a real old school defender who played many times for France, winning the European Championships in 1984. IIRC he was the only player to miss a penalty  in the shoot out when Marseille lost the Champs league final v Red Star Belgrade in 1992. I can't remember if he played in the winning team a year later.

Battiston was indeed the subject of attempted murder by Scumacher in 1982. Unbelievable refereeing.

That Fonseca may well have been the Uruguayan, EWW. I lived in France from 1988 and remember that he and EnzoFrancescoli were playing there, though I can't remember who they played for.

Ah well remembered Damo. The original Paris team (PSG were only formed around 1970) which underwent a few name changes and died in the early 90s. Unbelievable that a city like Paris only has one team.

Am I right in thinking they struggle to get big crowds in Paris as it isn't really a football city? More interest in rugby I always thought.

There is another team in Paris, Red Star FC   Went to watch us play Sporting Lisbon in a friendly at their ground in the early nineties

They fill the Parc des Princes for (50,000) every game but they are the only league team in a city of 10 million.
