And those 'generally good players' had mostly been signed by...Paul Lambert.

The most consistently able buyer of players since TGGT Mk 1. A shame he couldn't manage/coach them.

He'd be great as director of football though, not that I want him back or anything

He'd be shit as a director of football.  Are we forgetting all the atrocious buys all of a sudden?

Shit manager yes, but with the money at his disposal I dont think his buys were that bad in general.

You're right.

But rather than concede this point, his enemies use his cheap and cheerful buys as a distraction from his very good purchases.

Lambert's problem wasn't identifying players, that stands up against most managers (and they all have one's that didn't work). It's well documented now that his problem was his inability to build a reliable coaching team, his tactics and his ability to motivate and inspire.

I will stand up for his signings, but no way will I stand up for the football that was being played and the way he always said the same shite before and after the games. It was so boring and the players must have felt that

His bad buys far, far outweigh his good ones.

I agree with Risso. You can argue in his defence that they were relatively cheap but it still adds up to a lot of quids wasted.

I'd say that the biggest list would be signings that were just 'alright'. There have been a few unqualified successes and a few complete failures. Most would fall somewhere in between.

Well if you take the team at the moment, which obviously haven't done that well so it could be a mute point, but starting at the back with Lamberts buys we have Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar, Okore, Westwood, Sinclair (loan) Benteke that's 8 first teamers at a combined cost of less than 20 mill,

In any ones book that's not bad, and would certainly show a healthy profit that would dwarf the cost of the bad buys, who to my knowledge he didnt pay much for, many posters said Peanuts at the time if I remember rightly
But your the accountant so you should know that

That's without Kozak who we don't know about yet,

He turned out to be a rubbish manager, but he left us with some decent players which hopefully someone else can get more out of

El Ahamadi - Crap
Lowton - Crap
Bennett - Crap
Vlaar - Ok
Bowery - Crap
Benteke - Good
Westwood - Ok
Sylla - Crap
Tonev - Crap
Bacuna - Ok
Okore - Ok
Luna - Crap
Helenius - Crap
Steer - Ok too early to judge
Kozak - Ok too early to judge
Cole - Crap
Senderos - Ok too early to judge
Cissokho - Ok
Richardson - Ok
Sanchez -Ok
Gil - Ok too early to judge

Hardly a glowing reference, his transfer dealings look mainly Ok, add to that he couldn't manage a fart, was personally very dull and uninspiring and didn't think coaches were important I'd sum up his whole reign as almost entirely incompetent.

Bad tactics, lack of leadership, players without bottle and a general stink around the club.

I'm not sure about why it happened but I'm glad its over.

I'd move Lowton to ok, Guzan added in as good. I'd also probably lean towards moving Okore to good.

So pretty much as I said - some good, some bad, the majority ok.

I'd agree about Lowton, I think he was one of the best players a couple of seasons back and then he appeared to be totally frozen out by Lambert.

Can Delph, Weimman, Cleverly and Sinclair be classed as Lambert sigings? They all either stayed or came when he was in charge.

I feel that Bennett may come back and surprise us, pleasantly.
Helenius cannot be judged on his one one or two appearances.
Okore - too early to judge, given his injury.

I think you've been harsh generally, above.
