Aston Villa becomes a graveyard for managers. Probably because they know they'll never get anything quite like it again :O)

He didn't sign any of them though.
He signed Guzan.

Although I take your point, I thought you meant that the players listed had gone backwards under him rather than that our better players hadn't all been signed by him. Seeing N'Zogbia on that list threw me as you don't often see people putting him on a list of our 'generally good players'.

Guzan is tenuous, would TSM2 have signed him had he not been a Villa player previously.
It's not particularly relevant - he wasn't on ours books and Lambert decided that he was a player he wanted to sign. At the time we signed him he was the same as any other player available and not under contract, whether he'd previously played for us or not.

Do you think Guzan would have paid for his own flight back to Birmingham if hadn't previously been a Villa player?

TSM2 sucked the passion and life out of this club more than any other manager in living memory and I'm glad he's gone and will be happy if the foul mouthed failure never managed again. Not that it will bother him as he counts the millions he has earned off presiding over the most embarrassing and shameful collection of records ever set at this club. Good riddance. Yes I am bitter.

UTV!

I've no idea - but whether he would have or wouldn't have, it still doesn't change the indisputable fact that Guzan was signed for the club by Paul Lambert.

There is not a great deal of credit you can give Lambert but surely Guzan, Delph, finding Benteke and even the development of Clark and Baker could be?

Clark is an interesting one. He looked more of a prospect before TSM2 took over, then spent two years putting in performances littered with mistakes, even this season he was 4th choice until December when the injuries kicked in. Hardly a ringing endorsement of Lambert's coaching skills.

And those 'generally good players' had mostly been signed by...Paul Lambert.

The most consistently able buyer of players since TGGT Mk 1. A shame he couldn't manage/coach them.

He'd be great as director of football though, not that I want him back or anything

He'd be shit as a director of football.  Are we forgetting all the atrocious buys all of a sudden?

He'd be shit in Poundland but great at ASDA. Not so sure at M&S though, probably crap.

Are we still talking about him - to me it seems like a lifetime ago since he went.

Don't visit a Lambert thread then? No need to talk about him then.

It is time to end this thread.

Quite simply he was out of his depth. He came with a theory / plan that failed. He then tried plan A B C & D to cover his tracks whilst an absent owner and and CEO danced to his tune.

Turn right at end of the players tunnel and there in front of you is the Holte End. Any manager emerging from there should look up and say I have set Aston Villa up to the best of my abilities to entertain and win.

Lambert failed on all three.

Thanks Ian - I never thought of that.

It is one of those moth round a lightbulb things, sooner or later I have to take a look.

I suppose we need to keep it open just in case we go down, that way we can still harp on about he was to blame which he would be.
