I saw a bit of his post match interview on SSN last night, and although I wasn't paying a huge amount of attention - I was trying not to hear him say we were excellent, as it would have made me put my foot through the telly (and probably through the wall behind it, too) - and I thought he looked "broken".

He looked and sounded like a man who didn't believe what he was saying any more, and really didn't want to be there.

He still takes the money while ruin us . Ive no respect for him now.

In fairness we don't know anything about the terms of the dismissal and also how many people would walk away knowing they were entitled to a pay off? He was given a four year contract after all. I'm glad he's gone, but I don't have any malice towards him.

Four year contract. He's staying.

Indeed. A 4 year contract negotiatied with terms and I would think certain obligations are in place. For instance the position of Aston villa within regards to being in relegation zone and at certain periods of time within season. Included a full and frank review at end of season and review of terms
.A contract on a salary of 4 year period , with provisions, is there to encourage stability. I would imagine its considered in best interests of club to have Lambert in under Lerner tenure until say relegation position  levels are being displayed. This would mean in itself if Villa are in the relegation zone within period then major consideration to change in management and structure would occur.

The situation has led to Lambert leaving however its duly noted that players have to take responsibility too.
ATM there are 3 potential candidates in mind including a very experienced premier league manager with short term option in keeping Villa in the premier league. Without doubt it would be his biggest job but could divide opinion.

Talk sport now giving lambert shit. The media are really on it now

A lad I know got on there by the name of Karl. Missed it as still in work

Heard him , made excellent points

Something like six players that played last night were already there when Lambert came and 8 players of his are out on loan , so he's signing haven't all been good, he's wasted money.  Hes treated some players like shit .

Made good points .

There's no need to drag that up, I've been wrong much more recently than that. A few hours ago, in fact.

I don't think people should be averse to another and Sherwood combination. Similar to a dowie shearer partnership but with a more progressive , passionate and enthusiastically approaching games. No one could deny media interviews would be interesting.
The options  though aren't so clear and Sherwood has quite a or push to have his name involved in premier league jobs .Some would think Sherwood has much to prove at this level and his brash attitude needs to be curved with a wiser head. Peter Taylor manager of england and england under 21s woulkd be suitable for a footballing role. Quite why Warnock would be involved is another matter but has experience in relegation battles.

Would people like Sherwood with an experienced manager/coach by his side as part of management team.?

Dowie/Shearer, christ I'd forgotten all about that. If there was a team who signed their own relegation death warrant it was Newcastle appointing those two....amusingly on April 1st.

Me neither.  I suspect that it was more him being pushed than jumping, but it really makes no difference now.  Also, its funny how a lot of this stuff comes out in the taboids when the manager leaves instead of during his reign.  None of us have any idea how much of it is true and frankly it bores me.

Pretend lambert is still in charge. What would be your comments post match today, assuming we had suffered the usual 2nd half capitulation.

A few interesting comments here, as always take it with a pinch of salt:

I've highlighted my favourite bits.

Quote
Paul Lambert's reign at Aston Villa was HAPLESS - but they are still in the Premier League

Sifting through the wreckage this week of Paul Lambert’s hapless and clueless reign in charge of Aston Villa, it was hard to see the positives.

Yet there is one.

Even though the club slipped into the bottom three, Villa remain in the Premier League. And there is still time for one of the competition’s founder members to claw themselves free of danger. That’s the good news.

The rest of it?

Well, it’s a confused tale of wasted money, lost opportunities, half-truths, downright lies and public relations disasters.

Toss those in the cocktail shaker and add to it the general evisceration of a football club under a manager who doubted himself he was fit for purpose – and you get a snapshot of what Aston Villa has become.

A laughing stock with Lambert and owner Randy Lerner cast in the roles of slapstick legends Laurel and Hardy.

True, the picture wasn’t one of summer sunshine, cute bunny rabbits, blue skies and happiness when Lambert walked into Villa Park in June 2012.

But the Scot inherited an expensively-assembled squad and had the unequivocal support of billionaire owner Lerner as well as enjoying the longest honeymoon period with the club’s supporters of any Villa boss in a generation.

Yes, anyone was better than Alex McLeish. Only they weren’t.

From the start, Lambert ostracised senior players and allowed Lerner to take on the role of fall guy.

Yes, the Glaswegian told the world, 'I’ve been told to bring in hungry youngsters'. Only the truth, as spoken by Lerner’s erstwhile right-hand man General Charles Krulak in the wake of Lambert’s sacking, laid bare that whopper.

“Paul argued he needed a group of fresh young players,” said the Vietnam veteran. In they came. Out went the money from Lerner’s wallet.

Record signing Darren Bent landed himself among a seven-man ‘Bomb Squad,’ after a face-off with the club’s boss about whether the £24million man should wear the yellow bib for being the day’s worst trainer.

Alan Hutton was also left to kick his heels on £40,000 a week. Shay Given found himself a lovely spot on the bench on £60,000 a week. Stephen Ireland likewise. All deemed surplus.

In came a list of ne’er-do-wells. In as much as: ‘They will never do well.’

Nicklas Helenius, Aleksandar Tonev, Jordan Bowery, Yacouba Sylla ... oh, the list goes on. And on.

True, there were a few diamonds. Ron Vlaar, Christian Benteke. Fabian Delph managed to stay fit long enough for his energy to be rewarded with an England cap.

Benteke – pretty much on his own – saved Villa’s bacon in that first season when they headed for the slaughterhouse.

The second season brought more mediocrity, capped by a spectacular fallout between the manager and his assistants Gary Karsa and Ian Culverhouse amid allegations of bullying.

Last summer, a by-now group of disaffected players were told to work with Roy Keane – a move akin to passing a live hand-grenade to a child.

That ended predictably – Keane was told to mind his own business by Gabby Agbonlahor after the Irishman poked his nose in where it wasn’t wanted.

Lambert went to Munich to learn from Pep Guardiola and decided possession football was the way forward.

Only it wasn’t a way forward. Twelve goals so far this season shows it was merely a means to keeping the analysts happy.

The manager appointed a head scout who lasted two months. Kevin MacDonald – regarded as one of the best coaches in the business – was allowed to leave.

It has created a vacuum into which disillusionment and anger have seeped. Lerner can shoulder his portion of the blame, too. He was an absentee owner – desperate to offload his rich-boy’s plaything.

The joke of it all is that Lambert offered to resign when he went to visit the American owner last summer - Only to be told to honour his contract – and then be offered a new four-year deal! It beggars belief.

Current and former chief executives, Tom Fox and Paul Faulkner have to be excused. They were, with respect, hired hands – asked to get themselves dirty when it suited the two decision-makers.

Lambert lacked the wit, intelligence, gravitas – and, it can now be seen – the skill to take on a job as big as Aston Villa. And Lerner? He bought it. Literally.

The one saving grace for Tim Sherwood is that the season isn’t over. But it hasn’t been for the want of trying.
