I find it hard to think that if I were manager and let the players train how they want, and just sent out the players for the last 10 games with the words "play how you want and enjoy it" that we'd do worse than 3 points and 2 goals.

I can see where you are coming from, but I think you are wrong.

The forceful personalities in the side, e.g. Gabby and Delph, are not leaders. Players like Evans. Mortimer and Withe would sort things out on the field. We have nothing like them. No player worth his salt would follow Lambo's dumb instructions.

I agree about Gabby, but I think Delph, Vlaar, Hutton, Senderos (if he was ever fit), Clark and Westwood all have some leadership qualities. I just think it's getting to the stage where it's not just us that are feeling beaten but the players too.

I've been saying for a while it looks like the job is getting to him. I even said it to Legion at the open training day. I think the job has beaten him.
They train!!??

I saw it. And they practice shooting. Hard to believe I know, but they do. Although Lambert and Keane spent most of the session not even watching the players but talking to each other.

They train most days.

I mean Legion and PWS. God knows what the Villa players do most days.

They might train but they're not coahed. I have no idea how we are supposed to break a side down. I keep watching us game after game, but still leave feeling none the wiser.

One thing that struck me was how content we were in possession to check back and allow Hull to get men behind the ball, there didn't seem to be any instructions from the bench that this wasn't acceptable.

Quite the contrary. They've clearly been told to keep the ball at all costs and the easiest way to do that is to pass it sideways or backwards.

Movement off the ball is virtually non existent, so our passing is nearly always slow and laboured. And that gives the opposition plenty of time to be in position to defend.

I look at a lot of clubs in the league, around Europe, even the Championship and envy them.

All the clubs doing well around the world seem to have a manager with ideas of football in the present and foresee where football is going in the future. We've been stale in all our managerial appointments since Lerner took over.

He went to Bayern to pick up some ideas and the possession thingy is clearly showing....we just don't have Robben, Lewandowski, Ribbery, Alonso, Muller, Schweinsteiger and Gotze and co to implement those ideas....not many clubs do.

Bit of a wasted journey hey Paul.

Another thing was Gil looks like the only person who might make something happen. And he's out wide playing as deep as a full back at times.

I would want him as further up the pitch as possible, preferably around the opponents box.

Gil needs to play centrally not as one of Lamberk's innovative secondary fullbacks.

I feel for Gil, after 3 games it seems he knows he's got to try and do everything because no one else has a clue how to play the modern game.

Get him gone, get Hoddle in until the summer - offer a hefty bonus for keeping us up - at least we could have confidence that they are being coached

Possession as a tactic only works if there's an attacking intent. Bayern, Barca, Arsenal, etc use it alongside brilliant movement to create gaps behind defences. At the moment our lot treat it as a training exercise where there isn't a goal and keeping the ball is the only objective.

It's so moronic.
