It's the payout isn't it. Lamberts body language is terrible he looks depressed but he isn't going to walk away from all that compensation. I agree with what most have said he has been overwhelmed by the job, it's just too big for him.
Commentator said it well today Villa have got some very good players and he is suprised that Lambert isn't under more pressure, after fifteen minutes he said that Lambet needed to make changes quickly but as we all know Lambert is a creature of habit and he waited til sixty minutes and we were three down.

I'd love to know across our entire history has there ever been a manager that started life as popular as Lambert did to be as despised (as Villa Manager) as he is? Surely there can't be any who in such a short time has seen their stock fall as dramatically as him.

David O'Leary?

Paul Lambert's back to back promotions at Norwich seemed great but like Nigel Adkins he has been found out badly in the top division

Villa Park has destroyed many a manager unfortunately

Maybe a part of Lambert's popularity was because of who he followed. I can't recall if O'Leary was as popular prior to his appointment.

brian your posts tend to irk me because they're always always the same about how long you've supported Villa and how bad Lambert is. today i clicked on this seeing your name hoping for something from you to confirm how I feel. I'm dreadfully pissed off and and those who saw the 3rd division can bring some perspective. But also they should be the rallying call. Fuck this lads, we've been there and we know how this shit ends up.

Yes it's the payout. He looks like he knows he's out of his depth but he's going nowhere. Lerner is blinking at pulling the trigger and in the meantime we get humiliated week in week out.

Apart from Graham Taylor in 1990, I cant think of any manager who has left the club with their reputation enhanced.  There in lies another issue.

We now have a terrible reputation in the game.  A club with an absentee owner who (despite what Fox says) has long since bored his play thing.  A board who make one haphazard decision after another, and a graveyard for managers.

Added to a national press who repeatedly berates us for hounding managers out, I doubt many managers would touch the club with a bargepole.

The contract was mental at the time and is now the anchor that could very well relegate us.

Oh for sure he was. I remember a lot of positivity around his appointment. Only other two I remember getting as much popular buildup were BFR and MON. The tide turned for DOL halfway through his second season. That was when we became a soft touch and the excuses began,

I'm not sure what thread I've put this on previously, but a lot of managers would look at the group of players we have, see we aren't dead and buried, a have a favorable draw in the FA Cup and think "you know what... I think I could get so much more out of this bunch of players and the club in general"

Pete those years were terrible and i hope you never see Villa that low but it looks so inevitable, the only way out that i can see is for the supporters to make headlines across the country so Lerner will have to act.

Surely there's a compensation clause? One that's not just "if we sack you, here's four year's wages"? I tend to agree with Dave - it's not so much the money, it's the thought of what comes after which terrifies them. Lambert is docile and pliant, his replacement may not be.

Not at all. Lambert's popularity was purely based on this attacking Norwich team that he had that seemed to be at their most dangerous taking games to teams and looking vibrant. Where the bloody hell has that gone? He's scared so he's lost his own belief. that makes hima  sitting duck manager and the owner can't see it.

Which, although I'm anything but a Pulis fan, I thought Pulis could do for us, short term.
Galvanise the team, give them some sense of belief in themselves and show that they are good enough to at least make life difficult for the opposition.
We were a poor second to Arse today...but we were a poor second to Leicester fu**ing City a few weeks ago!

The sainted Pulis didn't do a great job keeping Tottingham at bay yesterday.

I can't believe anyone wanted Pulis.

Haven't they been watching us for the last four years?

Why replace a relic of a manager with yet another fucking relic?

The problem we have with Lambert isn't that we were wrong to want a progressive manager, it is that Lambert turned out not to be it. The thinking was still sound.

No, the thinking wasn't sound it was the board/owner listening to us. We got it wrong with Lambert and they/he got it wrong with TSM/Houliier. Feck knows what happens next.
