Put it another other way - why should he fly thousands of miles to be abused by people who loved him when he was giving them hundred of millions of pounds? Whether he's here or not is irrelevant; if you want a billionaire owner then you're not going to get one who lives round the corner.

I am not sure he would get abuse, the reason he should travel to Villa Park is because he is the custodian of this Football Club and hiding away will not make it better or his responsibilities go away.

You really think he wouldn't get abuse? There are people out there who still believe he's somehow making a fortune from  us.

I would still love those people to explain how!

He would get abuse for the wrong reasons. He needs to answer some questions, but not face the baying mob as it is pointless.

That is for the manager!

In comparison to those dark days with Ellis ? I don't think so. I think he should see for himself how bad things are though.

Agree, I would be disappointed if he did get that treatment, I would however like to see him witness Lambert getting it.

I think it's about time we stopped giving him credit for wasting a fortune a good few years ago.  Whichever way you look at it he's the one responsible for where we are now.  Yes, Lambert's operating under a tight budget but that's Lerner's choice.  And yes, Lambert is doing a poor job but Lerner's the only one with the authority to sack him.

He had a good two or three years when everything was being done for him but it's gone from bad to worse since.  Some of the decision making has been beyond belief.  And for him to bugger off and never show his face is a giant 'fuck you' to the supporters.  Sooner or later someone's going to have to come in and clear up the mess he's made.

For all the criticism he gets, "where we are now" is still higher up the league than when he arrived.

That is the very most that can be said, and even that has considerable potential to change.  A crap squad, a crap manager, the bare minimum of money, relegation battles every season and falling attendances tell the full picture.  He deserves every single bit of criticism he gets.

Him getting so much criticism for recent events, while the first four years are forgotten. And actually, no he doesn't deserve every bit of criticism he gets because a lot of it is untrue and some outright libellous.

Well, as I said before, I think it's time we stopped giving him credit for wasting all that money.  Neither do I think the fact there are a few uninformed people out there should divert attention away from the diabolical mess he's made.  It doesn't invalidate any of the genuine criticism he gets and with respect I don't think it's a particularly important point in the wider scheme of things.

Or more likely, Tom Fox when he answers questions at this fans forum next month.

I can't be arsed arguing over fine detail but there's a big difference between "all the criticism" and genuine criticism. I would also argue that he does deserve credit for those early years, not least the fact that we were headed for relegation and some would say that the sale of the Serpentine was what saved us from even deeper shit than could be imagined. Ultimately both the world, and his part of it, changed.
