Lambert reminds me of the Fast Show character in the pub with his mates discussing football where he just keeps changing his own view to agree with everything they say until he disappears up his own opinion and they take the piss...

Houllier said, to the French press, in his press conference when he was revealed as our new (well, when he'd finished his old job) manager that he thought "this is not a club on the level of Liverpool".

There's nothing wrong with him thinking that. There are lots of things wrong with him saying it to the press.
Hadn't we also finished ahead of Liverpool the previous season?

Yes. And in his last season with Liverpool (when he had been hired to win the league title) he managed to finish a whole 4 points ahead of Villa, who were managed by DOL.

You put your finger on it pbav.   It is his mock sincerity which makes me dislike him far more than TSM.   With McLeish what you saw was what you got albeit what you saw was a scottish duffer.   Lambert thinks he is silver tongued charmer

That was his problem. He put his foot in his mouth so frequently that, when he really needed all the friends he could get, he had needlessly fucked most of them off.

Aye.  "In my opinion, it is a club that finishes 7th-12th."

It's that PR aspect again.

He might well have believed we weren't anything special, that we couldn't possibly compare to the one love in his life (LFC).

But as the highest paid manager in our history, he should have masked that a bit better.  If he couldn't go into bat for us and talk the club up, then who could.

A shame, because compared to all the other recent failures, he was the one with the most progressive ideas.

The turgid durge continues.

"We're playing well at the minute. We just need to finish off the chances.

"You keep on going and keep on working on it in training.

"We've just started playing this way. The chances against us are really low too, which indicates that we have more of the ball than we used to have.

"We are playing well enough. We are moving the ball really well and keeping it really well.

"The last three games, the lads have said it themselves that teams have sit in against us - at times with six defenders against us.

"It's not easy to just break someone down. You keep working and keep persevering."

Asked about the search for more dynamism, he continued: "That's something we are working on. We've worked on it in training this week.

"We've not really had time to coach [over the festive period] because of the amount of games we've had.

"We have got a good cornerstone of a defensive record. But we just have to get that creative side in it to make things happen.

"If you look at the chances we've created, if they go in it's a different ball game because teams come and give you a game then.

"You have to keep going. I will stick to my belief. It's a work in progress. It's something I know will work.

Stick to his belief?? Is that this weeks or last weeks belief??  Haha...are we gonna wake up one day to find we are living out a Truman Show with David Brent at the helm?

The thing is, Paul, that's a pretty big "just" there.

What the optimistic bones in my body are hanging on to is that Lambert has done what he can wth what he has. That is he's made us very strong defensively but doesn't have the players to address the creative side. And that he will go some way to addressing that in this window.

Crosses fingers etc etc

How many games have we played and points attained since the 'nightmare' run of games?
