Given the money that he has had, or not, plagued by injuries to key players, I would strongly say that he has competently kept us up when we should have gone down with the squad he has been left with after injuries.

We are now in November, following a tough run of games and continued injuries and now suspension to a key player and it is panic again.

Lambert we trust.

Do we?

Whilst westleys defence of Lambert is done with well meaning intent I confess to being in a similar position last March. The ending to the season convinced me that he didn't have a clue on how to set his team up, his best formation or a define able set of tactics that could get us draws let alone wins. I didn't renew my season ticket this summer and have been to two games this season, with his continued occupancy of the Managers seat I doubt I'll be doing much more than choosing the odd game to attend (endure?). I haven't for one minute regretted not renewing in fact is say my decision has been thoroughly vindicated judging by the zeitgeist on here and other forums. This is not a rush to judgement I've been a season ticket holder for the last 7 years, ultimately I go to be entertained, support my team and have a good time with friends. I've lost complete faith in the ability of the club both on and off the pitch to tick any of those boxes and I've lost count of he number of times I e posted on Facebook or texted mates with the "great day out ruined by 90 minutes of football" over the last few years. Ultimately watching Villa just isn't fun anymore, it's become dreadfully dull and whilst I wouldn't expect us to be challenging the top 4 a bit of decent attacking play having a go and winning the odd game would be a pleasant upturn on be last 3 and a bit seasons at the club.

I haven't quite reached the stage of boycotting the club Like I did in 1998 under Ellis but I'm close.....

With respect.
Fuck off with the 'tough run of games' bollocks.
I'm sick to death of hearing that, and hearing it peddled by the Lambert apologists like it's a reason for shit performances.
Every single game is 'tough'.
If we don't like playing 'tough' games, then we should just fucking well pack it all in now.

The fact we've been constantly shit for nearly 100 games negates any excuse of injuries, tough fixtures, confidence blah blah.

We've tried the young, now the experienced. We've tried passing a little bit and long ball. We've spent a little bit of money and we've spent very little money this summer. We've had different sets of coaches.

The only factors that are consistent are our shitness and our manager.

Put two and two together.

WestlyArmsAV is of course entiitled to his opinion, although I do get the impression it's either done tongue in cheek or to wind up. I've seen It before and I think I know what I'm swaying towards.

The panic is from the manager and the players. It started with the battering Everton gave us at home at the very start and has been too frequent to dismiss as 'blips'.

I can think of a handful of games where the score could have been double figures.

One of the most depressing aspects of Lambert's Aston Villa is the increasing number of teams you feel you can add to the list of 'won't get anything from that game'. You used to look at the fixtures and think, Chelsea away, United at home, City...now we add the likes of Everton, Spuds, Southampton.

Ironically when they were walloping us 3-0 in the nineties, i'd have given my eye-teeth to consistently piss on Liverpool's fire. Now we seem to be able to do it with ease, it's not as much fun when you can't guarantee it against anyone else.

This is getting dull, simple question for Footy and Westley, do you think we have a bottom 6 squad?

I think when all players are fit and available we have a top 10 squad.  It is November.

I think there are 6 or 7 clubs whose squad is certantly not player for player better than villas

but don't you get the unremitting shiteness of it all?
Absence of tactical shape, lack of overriding footballing strategy, apparent absence of coaching to irradicate the repetitive set-piece frailty ...
The record he has at Villa says it all. "Lambert, you are the weakest link ..."

You're both correct, and you're both damning the manager you're both sticking up for with those statements.

So I think that leads us all to a very simple conclusion; or I should say 'led us to' as most of us came to realise what is very obvious about a season and a half ago.

Without splitting hairs Richard, the timeframe you give there relates to the only period in his tenure where he looked like taking us forwards.

You are probably right Lee. I have become so inured to this shit that I can't really remember us being good for what seems like years
