Moyes isnt getting a top 6 job anytime soon. He could go abroad but doesnt strike me as the sort who would integrate well abroad.

I think he would jump at coming at VP.

We are a big club
We have a half decent squad to work with and hopefully improve
Presumably he would be given some £ to spend
He is working from a low base. The only way is up
He would have time to sort us out, as long as he keeps us up initially.
He has something to prove to the football world and would be driven to succeed.

Where else would he have a similar opportunity?

Get him in pronto

Pretty much exactly what a lot of people said about Lambert while McLeish was manager.

Don't get me wrong, I'm inclined to agree with you, but just shows how cyclical it is.

Isn't he getting on a bit now?  I think he maybe a bit behind the times when it comes to managing the modern game.

Another reason Lerner will stick with Lambert is Fulham. He will conclude that they sacked their manager, spent money and still got relegated.

We are stuck with him, probably until its too late.

This is my take on it as well. I am convinced that Randy thinks that Lerner can somehow turn it around. We are in real danger here of losing a large number of our fans through this policy and it will be mighty hard to persuade them to come back. This is the legacy that we are in real danger if facing.

I am off to Calais for the day. Here is a bone for you to chew on while I am away.

Just suppose we lost ten games in a row, including Burnley and just suppose the new 4 year contract for Lambert was Fox's idea which Lerner had to be talked into. How secure is Fox under those circumstances. Would Lerner have the balls to bin them both?

My 'take' is that Lerner is trying to do as little as possible in the hope that a buyer will come along. That's why I think TSMII is with us for the foreseeable.
Fox? - surely too early to say what his role is in all this. Was he with the club when TSMII got his contract extension?
FWIW, I think we'll lose certainly the next two games and continue to be humiliated, with the same manager in charge throughout.

If we lose the next 2, that I think takes us to the International break, a practicable time to make a change, I just hope and pray that change is not going to be Mr. Roy.
I think he should have gone a long time ago, but if Lerner presses the button, the man I would go for is Tim Sherwood.

If Tim Sherwood is the answer....I don't even want to know what the question was.

He's not going anywhere. He's stuck with him thus far, and this season is no different.

I cannot even begin to imagine any reason why Moyes would come to Villa.   We have absolutely nothing to offer him, not even a thumping great wedge of a salary because he can demand that anywhere.   Time for us to face the realities of our situation.   We need a short term appointment to give us a bit of status and self respect back, then try for a top drawer long term manager.   It is never going to happen because it is too easy to muddle through and hope for the best.   Problem is if you hope for the best repeatedly, eventually you get the worst.

Why would he demand a big salary anywhere? The Man Utd job was too big for him and he shouldn't have been offered it in the first place.  He probably needs a new challenge after what happened there and Villa is the perfect one for him.

I would actually offer Lambert a 10 year contract if the alternative was Tim Sherwood. I want rid of our clueless chancer as much a the next man but not if it means replacing him with one of the few managers who I think is actually worse, tactically.

Paul Lambert handed two games to save job at Aston Villa

The under-fire Aston Villa gaffer Paul Lambert has reportedly been given two games to save his job at the struggling Midlands club. Six successive defeats has piled the pressure on the Scot, whose side have free-falled down the Premier League; from the dizzying heights of 2nd to 16th - one point above the relegation zone. Insipid performances, a dearth of goals and plummeting attendances don't help Lambert's cause, with his dismal record at Villa Park producing just 34 wins from 86 Premier League games following Sunday's defeat at home to Tottenham.

Back in September Villa were eager to project an image of stability and continuity after they surprisingly handed Lambert a new four-year contract, however reports have emerged that the club's startling slump in form has forced chairman Randy Lerner and chief executive Tom Fox to have a sudden re-think.

Lambert now apparently has just two games - against the in-form duo of West Ham and Southampton - to arrest the club's alarming recession and conjure up a first win in nearly two months. But, if Villa's barren streak continues - they are currently enduring their worst run for nearly half-a-century - the 45-year-old could become the first victim of this season's Premier League Sack Race; in which he is currently the 7/2 second favourite behind Harry Redknapp.

Villa's stagnation in front of goal is particularly worrying. Prior to the weekend they had failed to find the back of the net since mid-September, while Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo had banged in 20 goals during that time. On Sunday Andreas Weimann eventually ended his side's nine hour drought, however Christian Benteke's rash red card sparked a Spurs comeback, with the Londoners condemning Lambert's men to their six straight loss. A pitiful return of five goals in 10 games is the lowest (alongside Burnley) in the Football League, and with Benteke banned for three games it is diffucult to see Villa's tally ascending anytime soon.
